It's like they forgot to put the title on the record so somebody real quick opened it up in MS Paint and added a text block

In comic sans no less 🤣
That isn't comic sans. I actually think it's Chalkboard, which is Apple's Comic Sans.
Fair point…it’s still trash though. Doesn’t take away from the music in fairness.
I have just sent a message to somebody to ask them if they can get that information easily. Of all the things that I could do being Angry Metal Guy, it’s using my contacts to figure out what font was used on The Jester Race that I’ve chosen.
This is a terrific use of your time and we all appreciate your efforts.
I think this a perfectly legitimate use of your influence 👏👏🤘🤘
Followup: the short answer is that nobody really has any clue why that happened or what font it actually is. We were looking over it, and we realized it’s not comic sans. It can’t be chalkboard, because chalkboard wasn’t launched until 2003. And as to how it ended up there, no one has any idea. /1
this started us down another path. We talked about how records from that era were essentially sent back to bands completely blind. They had no say in the art or the layout. They were often just as surprised as everybody else was. And this led to some pretty major design disasters. Like for /2
example, Dark Tranquility's The Gallery which features blue text on this insanely messy red background. It’s a bit like the designers had an aesthetic at the time and that aesthetic was Don't Give a Fuuuuck. /3
This is the most interested in anything In Flames related I've been since the day my Reroute to Remain preorder came in and I threw it into the dumpster
God that record sucks. I remember seeing them before it came out, but they were already out in their white jump suits and we were all "what the actual fuck"? Rough times.
An interesting addendum to this is that Iron Maiden always had a ton of control. And that makes me wonder if this wasn’t partially a management thing or maybe it was just a matter of the fact of the bands were not big enough. I just did an interview and got a story from a band that had something /4
I believe Harris designed the Maiden logo himself, and it was already part of their stage backdrop before they recorded. He seemed to have a very fully formed look for the band ready to go. Similarly Joe Elliot came up with a design for "Deaf Leopard" while in school art class.
like this happen to them recently. I think that record labels is a general rule are good. at least they’re better than the reputation. But when you hear these stories, you can definitely understand why musicians were so desperate to get rid of them when they could. /5
Yeah it really pisses on the whole thing, doesn't it?
