I'm reading the former as someone like MLK, who is genuinely a hero in social justice causes. I'm reading the latter as an action figure, a plastic representation of the real hero who can be posed and positioned to fit someone else's desires.

It doesn't mean an action figure. But more to the point... it doesn't mean anything. That's my point.
It's what I think Tom meant. You disagree. That's fine. Unless he decides to clarify, we'll just have to disagree.
Tom is just using right wing coded buzz words. Just like woke can mean anything, so can social justice action hero.
Any word can mean anything, like "standing up to fascists" which is where the discussion started. @queenbeejdl.bsky.social had a somewhat different interpretation than mine, which I think is also reasonable. As I said, we just disagree, which is fine.
But right-wing coded buzz words aren't intended to have a definition. They're meant to indicate to the crowd that you identify with one group and are against another. The only point of the terms is to show that Tom is opposed to leftists who "think Jesus was woke"
