Except it wasn't. Women weren't the main driver behind it. The driver was the fashion industry which was dominated by men.

The consumers of the content drove it. Same as superheroes for men.

What content? What was it that women were consuming that drove it? It was mostly connected to the music industry and content marketed at men.

Fashion magazines, the relentless pile of so called women’s mags that piled up over the decades from Vogue to Cosmopolitan to People to Teen to Glamour and dozens more.

Except they weren't where it started. Blaming fashion magazines when it started outside of them is just lazy thinking.

The general public knew nothing about ‘fashion’ until it was sold to them by mainstream shows and magazines. That’s simplistic thinking.

These mags were primarily written by, about and for women. The crappy ‘men’s’ mags of this period had little to do with fashion and were more like sports rags crossed with page six from British tabloids.
