🧵Oh boy. Here we go. Materials & resources for helping to protect our neighbors in this thread.
A handy, little resource that's easy to print out, fold, & keep in a wallet—& when you put them in people's hands, they're so grateful (I've made/given away maybe 70-90 in the past few days, most directly into people's hands, but I also left a few in strategic locations).
If you can: Be there Be there with others Film stops, arrests, detainments etc by ICE, feds, cops etc Film them walking down the street or standing around Warn others esp potentially vulnerable people Waste their time Monopolize their attention Distract them Make them a spectacle 1/3
Blast (within legal decibel limits) silly songs (for ex: Vanilla Ice) Lawfully engage ICE, feds, cops etc Film them Ask them why they're wearing masks Ask them to remove their masks Ask them their names Ask what agency they work for Ask them where they're from Ask them why they're here 2/3
Mock and ridicule them for masking Ask how it feels to be hated by everyone in town Ask if this is what they thought this assignment would be like Ask if they really want to be here Ask if they'd rather be home where they live with family and friends instead of being hated here 3/3
Save, share, & maybe put the numbers in your phone so you have them handy.

English-Spanish Basic First Aid Vocabulary (just in case) I worked on this with a medical professional I'm close to & would trust with my life who's bilingual & has worked with Chicago's Spanish-speaking communities for years. 5/
(The zine format is perfect for this moment, and would be perfect for this bilingual first aid vocabulary list, because it's so very lo-tech and the finished product fits perfectly into a wallet - but I definitely need help...!) 6/
In Chicago/Chicagoland or anywhere else in Illinois: -Call Gov Pritzker; tell him you agree w ⬇️: 217-782-0244 -Find & call your state electeds & US Rep & Senators - tell them this unconstitutional power grab is wholly unacceptable: www.elections.il.gov/electionoper... -Ask others to do the same 7/7
PS - like JB said:
I deleted an earlier version of this; the ever excellent Daniel has revised it to be even better than it was yesterday! [this thread is clearly going to continue; this is 9/?]

I’d add tiene dolor? (Do you have pain?) as a nurse that was a quick shortcut to issues.
ah ha! Yes, that's great, thank you! As the rest of it's informal, though, I'd go with "tienes." cc @self.agency - can you add this in there, maybe after "Are you hurt" "Are you in pain? Tienes dolor? TEE-EN-ACE DOH-LOR?"
ACLU also sells printed business card sized trifold in several languages that outline rights. Like you, I’ve passed out several in Chinese & Spanish, & left them in strategic locations. It’s true - recipients are at first puzzled that I’m handing them something. It quickly turns into gratitude.
You can also get them here, also free. Nonprofits: If you are an immigrant-serving organization or a public defender, the ILRC can arrange to order and ship cards to you for free. www.ilrc.org/red-cards-ta...
These are all slightly different resources, with the Red Cards (& the ACLU tri-fold, too, I think) being geared toward the targeted people, and the zine I've been sharing geared toward people who might be in a position to report that people are being targeted. They're all very helpful!

Save the image to your phone’s photos!
I was clear that's what you meant & I think other folks will be, too - I find that it's often helpful when resources exist in multiple spaces.
Thanks. It’s such a weird time.
