so we went down there again this evening and i swear to you this is a beaver. it did the tail slap thing! the pond is v high and algae covered now without the outflow
he had a better picture of two of them from this morning. he said one tail-slapped and the other was like “whatever man, i’m eating.”
generally a very nice view, but absolutely had to hike back the largely un-maintained trail in the near dark. whoops
Ok this is gorgeous and I’m jealous
They are nature’s dam makers on 4 legs. They are pretty proficient at it too.
Congrats ❤️
Let them do what they do best. Beavers are a cornerstone species and are vital to healthy ecosystems.
Beavers know best! Thanks for sharing your pictures.
My father unclogs his beaver dam every day but I told him the water engineers know best. I was just looking at their handiwork today. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...
Hundreds of Beavers!
Damn.
Don't get slapped
That is what beavers are best at.
they do be beaving
You lucky ducks.
Don't bother fighting back. Beavers don't quit
Leave them alone! They know what they’re doing way better than we do
obviously!
If the pond starts to get too large there are gadgets called beaver deceivers that can be installed to help maintain the pond at a desired level without alerting the beavers that there’s a leak. If they hear running water they’ll try to block it off - the deceivers drain some water w/o making sound.
the pond is quite a bit higher than it was, but it’s county-owned land so it’s someone else’s decision/problem
Beavers ARE the natural flow of debris
