Also Grandma & Grandpa are dying off and not enough young people are replacing them. The Southern country store motif has reached its expiration date. It's about as relevant to young people as a rotary phone. They are nostalgic about their childhoods too. But that means the 1990s not the 1940s

Well their store is full of a bunch of religious shit. So maybe that could be a part of it as religious folks are fucking nuts.

I’m 40 and I have an … uncomfortable nostalgia about it? My mom is/was obsessed to the point I ended up having my wedding breakfast at one (small town, not a lot of options, it pleased her) and I’m into kitschy stuff but I also call it Racist Applebees because I’m aware of the overtones.

And for the record my wedding was in 2014 so I haven’t been there in almost 11 years.

They need to dump the old time country store look as no one born in the last 50 years has been in a real one and switch to something modern everyone is familiar with, 7-11.

This is exactly what I think! Of course there will be a few "younger" people who like it just like Bob Evans or Perkins but it's definitely geared toward memaw and papaw

I think in part the generation that doesn’t use yelp relies on the consistency of an establishment like cracker barrel. There is a reason you find them immediately off interstate highways. Problem is the internet made the world closer than what you can see from the interstate.

it was flying down the interstate to see grandma and grandpa that ended me up in a place where I could consistently get a good cup of coffee that didn’t have an M logo you’re right though, the problem is Internet. It made the world closer 💟

There's a half-million family owned diners within 10 miles of a Cracker Barrel that have better food, service, and a more authentic vibe. The barn-find motive is played out, except for a very specific demographic.

Exactly right. Capitalism involves creative destruction. No company is entitled to customers just because they've been around for 56 years. if there are better places, customers find them and patronize them.

Where I live in the Midwest, we have better diners a mile to 2 miles off the main highway that have food 💯 percent better than Cracker Barrel and we’re supporting the locals.. And, all the cooks are Mexicans 😂😂

I agree. The internet has flattened the map and I for one am always looking for a better dining experience just out of view. I'm also an old bastard but Cracker Barrel seems to be aging faster than me.

My old days in the Midwest it was Nickerson Farms, Stuckeys & Howard Johnson’s. No internet with Yelp for the assist, you had few choices. You were just happy to find a place to stretch your legs and eat out in the middle of nowhere. Now people actually search for good food. 🤣

I’m sure this is true in some areas(I’ve seen it cited as a reason for the would-be rebranding) but all the CBs around me are perpetually packed to the gills. My kid thinks their gift shop is super fun.

My children loved Cracker Barrel and would choose to go there when asked to pick a restaurant until the food went downhill. It’s really as simple as that.

It would be great if Cracker Barrel survives. It will take some creative thinking. Maybe one day we'll live return to being a country where a renovation to a roadside theme restaurant chain isn't turned into a toxic proxy war for the soul of America. PURE INSANITY.
