I got into the habit of boycotting Cracker Barrel for its vehemently anti-gay policies in the 90s and forgot to stop and have never been there

Did Republicans bor have home cooked meals prepared by love?? This is giving a step up from a frozen entree.
I have almost no opinion on Cracker Barrel, except that it is formerly so right-wing it literally fired any employee found to be gay and its name sounds vaguely segregationist, and it didn’t sound so tasty I needed to go out of my way www.nytimes.com/1991/02/28/u...
We can also boycott because it serves a 10,000 cal breakfast. But it’s so good! 🙏
Maybe it’s my age and location - but I can’t imagine how you’d run a restaurant without gay people…
What’s segregationist about Cracker Barrel?
My favorite curmudgeonly take was by Bill Goodykoontz of the Arizona Republic who called Cracker Barrel’s faux Southern engineered “authenticity” like “Planet Hollywood for hillbillies.” www.azcentral.com/story/entert...
Not the $2.45/ hr and no more than 10 hours a week shift time?
My local one which I frequent has an openly gay hostess. 🤷♀️he is wonderful
I strongly recommend the pancakes!
As I recall they were also openly racist.
I've been boycotting Cracker Barrel my whole life and just didn't know it. Never been.
I'm sure it's probably 4 noisy twitter accounts doing all the rabble rousing, but they seem like an awfully delicate clientele otherwise. Triggered by meat substitute. Triggered by a logo change. Maybe they just need a vacation.
nobodys "triggered" by a logo change. people just hate the logo simplification trend. companies routinely take pretty iconic logos and boil em down until they get something bland and forgettable and call it a day. i thought it stopped a couple years ago, but clearly not.
I’ve never been to Chicka flick either 🤌👊👊🤝 they’ve offended a lot more than the gay community, they see their women as handmaiden’s nope 👎
I've never even seen one, though I've traveled all though the south. I've seen my share of Stucky's and Big Boy's, though.
Your admirable, principled stance has also spared you no small amount of gastrointestinal misery.
Same.
We just try to not poison ourselves on road trips by eating at these places Despise Chic Filet too for their politics Never ate there You can travel with food and not eat this stuff imo
Same
Same. Also the hate chicken (Chick-fil-A)
I avoid the hate chicken but guiltily eat it at children’s birthday parties. And my stepson cannot be separated from it
People seem to forget the garbage the CEO spouted.
I’ve never been there ever. It’s an entire experience wrapped up in one word, “why?” (the word “cracker” was never welcoming) but I also grew up eating Capon at Christmas, and went to boarding school. 😂
Boycotting places I’ve never been to is as easy as giving up something I never eat for lent.
I have never been in a Cracker Barrel or a Chick-fil-A.
Me too! Plus, it sucks.
Lost me for the same reason in the 90s & don't see any reason to go back. Hard to forget what they did back then.
I have been boycotting Cracker Barrel for so many decades that I forgot why I was initially boycotting them! I had to google what they were doing back then. Now, I’m like, oh right, anti-gay policies and then later, they were charges of racial discrimination.
Right? I knew they were anti-gay but vaguely thought it was just run of the mill donation stuff. It was much crazier — they actually tried to find and fire all their gay employees
Cracker Barrel is for crackers. Mashed potatoes out of a box. Gravy out of a plastic jug.
I went once as a little kid while on a toad trip, got very ill from their food, and have never been to another one. They truly make me sick.
"Okay, now we have the hook of a bestseller about your health secrets!" - Your book agent
You can get a lot of fried clams, ice cream, and beer in Ptown, just sayin
TBH I sort of thought they were like, off brand world market and didn't realize they sold food
i didnt know about their homophobia but i guess it makes sense considering ive literally never been there. my parents dont support that kind of shit. the chick fil a boycott started when i was a kid and we stopped going there like. stat
Same. I drive right on by.
Same…
I always thought it was kinda racial, as in “Stay away people of color, because this here a barrel full o’ crackers!” Even as a white person, I was thus always uncomfortable when taken there.
Yes, that was my assumption too
Not that kind of cracker and Black people love Cracker Barrel. Whites call it country cookin. Blacks call it soul food. Same thing.
I've boycotted them for so long I've forgotten why. I still boycott Dennys over how they treated black federal agents.
Same.
My best memory of Cracker Barrel is having diarrhea in their bathroom as a kid on a road trip. I’d like to keep it that way.
I went once. The food was awful. Their logo is the least of their problems.
never been to their restaurants, I really thought the restaurant was over. In Canada, seniors and small town folks go to swiss chalet, is it like that? In Canada, Cracker Barrel is cheese. crackerbarrel.ca
Garbage food, overpriced knickknacks and old people that stare at you. Yeah your sign is the reason kids don't eat there.
In the words of his ghost writer:
Yeah, about that…
I ate there this spring because I slept in the parking lot in my motorhome. First time in years
We don't have any in NYC that I'm aware of, but I've boycotted the hell out of chic-fil-a since they came up here. It's a disgrace that nyers patronize those bastards
Lol right. I refused to be bothered to read even one article about this latest BS. Their food sucks and just who the f even cares?
Wow I didn’t even know that about them, but I’m not surprised. I went there once and the food sucked. Never wasted time or money there again.
It makes Applebee's look hardcore punk rock.
I was happy to go back after they repealed those policies. Top notch breakfasts and chocolate pecan pie, you can make a meal of sides, and the vegetable of the day is - on occasion - cornbread dressing. But apparently that’s not enough for people who like a logo that only works at large scales 🤷♀️
Who say cornbread ain’t no vegetable! #CrackerBarrel
Went once accidentally many years ago before I was vegan and glad I never went again.
the only good thing there is their hashbrown casserole, and most copycat recipes of the casserole are spot on in taste. other than that, it's grease and expensive knickknacks.
It's only a place to stop and urinate.
they are one of the few place where the bathroom door opens OUT. (you don't have to waste a paper towel to open the door after you wash your hands).
I’ve never been to one.
I thought the MAGATS had already boycotted them bc they dared offer something vegan in their menu.
The ditto is real!
I have never been there either. Just seemed like a redneck space that I didn't care to share much like Waffle House which I've never been to. 🤷🏽♀️
Things have changed since the 90s. They're struggling for business. Different world.
Success. 👍
It's also a butter and salt based weapon leveled at elderly racists, which is some mixed karma I will admit, but it still does not rise to a reason to give them your custom.
