you know he wasn’t in anyway involved directly in the civil rights movement? what legacy are you referring to?

He did participate in local demonstrations in south carolina and was jailed in 1961 after one march. He was younger than those we think of but there as a very young man. He was also the first black person since reconstruction era to serve SC in the US House. That is a real legacy.
