Talking Heads should have been named simply "David Byrne".
Talking Heads should have been named simply "David Byrne".

We're on a road to nowhere!
Haha
We love David Byrne & his band. We saw him at the historic Tampa theatre & they were incredible! Burning down the house, best dancing tune ever! 😁
Not "Same as it ever was", that's for sure. Fk trump, fk musk and fk the GOP!
The sun shines on the evil The sun shines on the good It doesn't favour righteousness Although, you wish it would Back in the box
A few months ago I listened to Naked for the first time in probably 30 years. I got hooked on it and listened to it a dozen times in a two week period. I think it's really underrated.
#me.also
I want "Once in a Lifetime" played at my funeral.
I’ll go with “road to nowhere”
If you haven’t seen Stop Making Sense, directed by Jonathan Demme, please do. How many movies on Rotten Tomatoes have you seen earn this high of a score? www.rottentomatoes.com/m/stop_makin...
I saw it when it was first released, at a cinema with an awesome sound system. It's undoubtedly one of the best ever concert movies.
I saw the show on stage the tour that was filmed. Yeah, I'm old. Live and film were both great.
True Stories is also a *must* *watch*
Seeing Stop Making Sense in 1985 (I think) was life changing. What a wonderful memory to carry! Happy Birthday David Byrne!
I changed my hairstyle so many times now, I don’t know what I look like, and I have many other concerns.
Happy birthday!!
I didn't watch TV for years,a decade probably. One day on an impulse I bought a TV for my 5 year old son. Late that night I plugged it in and I saw "Stop Making Sense" watched it to the end then i sat through "The hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy" The next day I gave my son the remote.
He has one of the most unique and recognizable voices in Rock.
His songs are just as good every time... Same as it ever was!
HBD
I love TH Love DB I miss those days...
Went to see American Utopia Live, best gig / concert / theatre / performance I have ever seen !
Do you ask yourself, well, how did I get here?
the talking heads and his solo albums will always be top of my list of amazing albums.
Stop Making Sense! Happy B-Day to the eclectic Byrne! Such a unique sound that sets a classic mood!
Enjoy your new year David
Life in War Time is one my favorite of all time.
And She was.
Psycho Killer!
My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts and The Catherine Wheel have more time in my ear than any TH album, but they are second in line.
I saw them play Forest Hill Tennis Stadium in 1983. My favorite concert of any.
Same.
Great illustration! I love it.
Make way!!! ✋🏼
Say something once, why say it again?
Stop Making Sense
I was Talking Heads at the US Festival in 1982. They stole the show that day.
Same as it ever was...
...same as it every was...
Why the big suit?
Drop all your plans for this morning and go watch Stop Making Sense.
I believe it was an accident that a suit was delivered too big and he wore it anyway and became a thing. Google it.
Nope. In Byrne's own words: “Music is very physical and often the body understands it before the head,” Byrne says in a bizarre contemporary self-interview previously featured here on Open Culture. To make that fact visible onstage,
“I wanted my head to appear smaller, and the easiest way to do that was to make my body bigger.”
I should have googled it myself! Thanks for that!
It's one of those things I remember for some reason - possibly because of my obsession with Byrne/TH.
Who wore it better?
Took me over a decade to understand the Doug reference

Can't believe my idols are getting so old! It shows my real age I guess. Happy birthday to the super talented man!!!
Lifelong metal fan exposed to Talking Heads a few years ago, listened to nothing else for a year. Now I listen to metal and Talking Heads. My three year old starting singing along to Wild Wild Life in the car (wild wild wife / piece CAKE). Proud moment. Yeah truly wonderful music
I love the talking heads, their music never sounds old Love the tom tom club too!
Saw them at CBGB's once. Then saw them a few years later on the Remain in Light tour @ Radio City Music Hall. Maybe two or three years between those two gigs in very different environments.
👍 great band!
🥳
Gifted artist. Stop Making Sense is brilliant and I have watched that movie at least 50 times over the years. Inspired art.
Stop Making Sense.
Psycho Killer!
Sooooo goooood
I’m younger than David and grew up listening to Talking Heads - now I realise that I am in fact really old. Damn you Chris LOL!
🍪🎂🍰🥡🍦🍧🍨🍩🍣🦪🍤🍥🥮🍡🥟🥠🧁🥧🍫🍬🍮🍩🍪🎂🍰
EVERY single song is killer, no filler.
Thanks, David!
73?! Wtf!
I went to further education after my MD degree. MpH..in class with his sister. LA..got to meet him. 1980s.
Same as he ever was
Dude was just listening to psycho killer last night lol
Qu'est-ce que c'est?
Still amazing in performance, so glad we saw his show just before Covid hit.

My beloved
Same. By far.
Love this guy!
"You may ask yourself, 'well, how did I get here?'" Yeah, I'm asking myself. Thanks for the reminder.
Born in Canada. Hamilton Ontario I believe...
Actually David was born in Scotland. His family along with David moved to Canada and finally to the USA.
much love and thanks David for the wonderful music over the years.
Ugh. He’s a pos! I went to uni with him and believe me when I say he thought he was privileged! Walked around in a fur coat!!!!
He will never ever stop making sense.
Hi Chris! Met you once, I am a friend of Matt Wilson!
And he used to wrestle under the name El Diablo youtu.be/eDARzui4zPg?...
Big fan of the "Here Lies Love" project, too www.youtube.com/watch?v=8f9O...
I saw them way back in the day when Tina was massively pregnant. And Nenah Cherry had fixed her visa problems. It was epic! (Imagine being that baby and hearing your mom play the bass for one of the coolest bands ever)
The best thing about Talking Heads, they got out while they where at the top. Didn't linger like some bands, slowly dying. Also got a soft spot for Tom Tom club.
You may ask yourself: “How did I get here?”
Most overrated band I can think of
Love him!💙
One of my favorite songs: www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Qyl...
Time well spent 🎸
Perfection
This doesn’t make sense
And what a day this is. youtu.be/q5lXhfhHOes?...
This whole concert is my obsession
Just before his death, Bucky Fuller told me that he believed David Byrne to be one of the smartest people in the world. Very high praise considering the source.
Same as it ever was.
Me too. And that art is amazing.
I just love it !!!
Few yrs back, I did a deep dive into the world of Talking Heads to write a screenplay about the band. Got a great response from a former music engineer (who knew them), said I nailed it. Someone closer to the band said it might be TOO honest for some of them. I'm entering it into contests this yr.
🤩 A fab post. Thanks for sharing.✌️
I am 47 and I started playing bass guitar a couple of years ago and I started learning on Talking Heads songs. I had always liked their songs before but now I’m a big fan and I listen to all their stuff very often. #TheWorldMovesOnAWomansHips #HBD_DavidByrne
His book “How Music Works” is really good as well.
I wish Burning Down the House had another minute of the jam at the end.
Happy B-day youtube.com/shorts/VY-3a...
Here in Austin, we get an announcement on the radio when David Byrne has been seen out and about. It's not a celebrity sighting but since he rides his bike downtown, it's an alert so drivers will be careful. How great is that? David Byrne is a national treasure.
I'll never forget the first time I have ever seen or heard Talking Heads. Saturday Night live - Take me to the River 1979.... loved them ever since
9 m 78,
I’ve watched Stop Making Sense about 1,000 times. Mostly on VHS.
🤪😊
Lucky to share a birthday with David.
🗽😎✌️
Love listening to them while I do stuff.
I’ve been listening to Talking Heads a lot lately. They’re so now.
Me too.
Love it!
Zoot suit!!
Great stuff, Chris!!
Saw them in Central Park in the late ‘70s. Opener was The B-52’s. Amazing show!
His solo work is pretty good, too. 😉
Me too!!! Since 1977 or so…….
m.youtube.com/watch?v=xoC6... Talking Heads party !
www.youtube.com/watch?v=JAa7... Life was and is so great because of David and Talking Heads ! “ Feel like murder but that’s alright “ ☮️💙❤️
Well...Happy Birthday David. Thanks for taking me to the river!
Me Too! Have you seen his film?
Happy 73rd Naive melody

He has a pleasant elevation.
Is that the singer behind the song “Like Humans Do” aka that Windows XP sample song? That song was legit a bop and even today it’s part of my music library, taken right from a Windows XP PC back when I had one.
Pink Floyd bro. Where u been at?
So at some point today, Once in a Lifetime has to happen??
Is this a new Roblox character
My god, what have I done…
I might have spent more time watching Stop Making Sense than all other concert videos combined. 73 actually feels 'young' since the Talking Heads were so incredibly established when I was 20 (Little Creatures released.)
Right there with you.
SAME
I understand, I’ve probably clocked more showings of Stop Making Sense than any other human - lol. Happy Birthday DAVID BYRNE🎬
The name of this band is Talking Heads
YES
I listen to it every day on my walk.
They're a close 2nd or 3rd for me
One of my all time favorites! Was lucky enough to see him perform in an small outdoor venue in New York state, best live show I ever seen and I've seen thousands. Definitely a perpetual presence on my playlist.
I remember seeing a girl with a balloon that said Talking Heads. I was intrigued enough to ask her. Always up for new music, I had a listen and was hooked. This was 1979.
Time well spent.
aw hbd db
I recommend this book to all 'Heads fans. Remain in Love: Talking Heads, Tom Tom Club, Tina g.co/kgs/EThzoas Happy birthday, Mr Byrne
I always thought you’d be more of a Spandau Ballet guy.
Would love to see them live. Hope they tour someday!
…..same as it ever was
Ain’t got time for that now!!!!
Same as it ever was.
Spot on!! 🫣
Love this. Link please.
Google ’you may ask yourself’ t-shirt.
Thanks. Super helpful.
Thanks, Stuart. I bought it from TeePublic. www.teepublic.com/t-shirt/5325...
Another fine Scottish export
Was lucky enough to see American Utopia on Broadway. One of the great entertainments of my life. If you've not read his book "How Music Works", you should.
Same here!
My brain is queued to play “Psycho Killer” whenever I hear his name.
