He was an awful man that spouted hate and had no empathy or sympathy for the unwarranted death of children by violence. I don’t think anyone deserves to be murdered. I also think the world is a better place without him. He died at least partially because of the environment he helped create.
I think it’s ok to have empathy for his family, without having sympathy for Kirk himself. He deserved this. His family doesn’t.
These events can happen naturally, but climate change, overuse of fertiliser and land degradation all play a significant role too. Yes, if we change some significant human behaviours, these events will be less severe and less frequent.
No expert, but typically algal blooms happen due to high levels of nutrients such as fertilizer runoff from farms, with warmer water temperatures. This one is huge though.
