I remember reading that some younger adults (under 25) have no concept that doing something dangerous might have consequences. Plus the allure in an off-limits area? Nobody else will be covering it on SM so they’ll get more likes. Too many deaths already from influencers at waterfalls, etc.

Jaws?!? Okay, there is an affair but I don’t recall the scenes as being “explicit sexual content”. Good thing the kids still have access to the public library, right? I hope the banning motivates them to sign out the “banned” books from the public library (b/c if they’re banned, the must be good 😉)
My brain doesn’t do well with audio books. And I prefer hard books so I can easily re-read portions, or flip to the photos or maps. I’ve checked and my local library doesn’t have them so I may have to buy them 😉 If we don’t study and learn from history, it has a habit of repeating itself

We’ve had a few hot dry summers the last few years here on the West Coast (not much of our typical rain) and started seeing this then. Distressing to see. Have observed the trees can bounce back later - they protect themselves by dropping the leaves.
We used to say with disgust “How could the Germans let the Nazis take over?” Now we’re seeing it in real time, and it’s terrifying. Even concentration camps 🐊 The bigger question is how do you take this down? It’s not just Trump - it’s the entire network behind him.
I bet PP is having a toxic field day over there (I avoid the place, for obvious reasons)
They also banned Brave New World and 1984, which I read when I was in high school. Agree this is about trying to control ideas and independent thought. Hope the kids think “Hey, if it’s banned, it must be good” and source them from the public library 😉
By deifying an insurgent, Trump is setting up for the next treasonous revolt. Not only will there be no consequences (you’ll be pardoned!), if you fight and are killed, we’ll immortalize you and make you a martyr. It’ll make it easier to recruit them next time.

I’m around your age. When we were kids, nobody talked about this stuff. It was going on, but nobody knew. With Epstein, brave women came forward and told us - which is why we know what he and Maxwell did. (Or some of it, anyway.) And it makes me feel physically ill, too
I saw the Filthy Rich doc as well. I think whatever has been uncovered to date is just the tip of the iceberg. I saw something on YouTube this morning - Johnny Rotten talking about Jimmy Saville. So many covered up for him and his horrible activities. What world are we in that protects abusers?
It’s a huge, international web - they were bringing in “models” from Russia and Eastern Europe (cough cough). Lots of powerful, incredibly rich men are being protected. And the abuse is sickening. Depravity. They don’t want us to know. And Epstein - suicide? I’m tending to think not 🤔

I really hope the Epstein files will be to Trump what tax evasion was to Al Capone. And I recommend reading this book by @jkbjournalist.bsky.social - her great reporting led to the NY charges against Epstein. She names some names and yes, that includes Trump.

Hatley Castle has been featured in a number of films, including X-Men and Little Women (the 1994 version). And many years ago, an episode of 21 Jump Street. I know someone who worked there at the time and met Johnny Depp. Beautiful place, lovely gardens.
I call it a “non-ology”. No apology at all (and it really means “You are too sensitive and I don’t give a darn”). I was married to someone who used that all the time. There’s a reason he’s my ex 🙄

Sometimes you have to stay and fight. And as I’ve said, moving isn’t always an option - an Americans trying to move to 🇨🇦 have discovered. Where would you move to?
Where else would I go? Not to the US. And my children are here. It’s not that easy to emigrate to another country. And besides losing jobs, homes and family ties in 🇨🇦, many people would not have been able to afford to move.
If Carney hadn’t stepped in to run, and if the NDP voters hadn’t voted Liberal to prevent vote-splitting, we would likely have had PP as our Prime Minister. We were a squeak away

I used to do that - have since learned to use trays in a drawer and stick my spices in there alphabetically. Sounds dorky but otherwise I’d be spending 20 minutes rooting around. Also re-use small jam jars to hold the spices that come in bags - easier to dip my tablespoon in. Label with masking tape
I enjoyed that show - but he did go grocery shopping, as I recall, and sometimes bought special cooking items (pots). I remember one show where he was working with the wife to make a surprise dinner for her hubby, and she was obviously besotted with Stone 😬 (Can’t say I blame her, though)
Yes! My daughter and I tried one with both of us working full-out. Took us more than an hour. And the text was so dense that it was difficult to read. Have not tried that cookbook again. (And read that his “Meals in 30 Minutes” was reprinted as “Meals in Minutes” 🤣)
I’ve been to the UK three times now and loved it. Will have to come back for cheese toast ❤️ (and to see all the amazing places I didn’t get a chance to see!)

I read the (very long) list. I’m boycotting most of those things anyway. As to the others (appliances, for example) we wouldn’t want to see tariffs on those 💰 💰. PM Carney knows what he’s doing - lifting the tariffs won’t hurt us. And won’t really help the US. Keep buying Canadian 🇨🇦 💪 😘
When I was little, I used to imagine that the musicians were somehow inside that big thing. (Ours was a stereo only, no TV.) Bonus: it played 78s and we had my grandparents’ collection of 78s from the 1930s and ‘40s. Benny Goodman or Glenn Miller, anyone? 🎶 💕
Just read this excellent book by @jkbjournalist.bsky.social and Brown reports that Maxwell basically went “shopping” for victims, hitting spas, etc. to recruit women to “work” for Epstein. What was in it for her? Money. Power. Epstein’s approval. She didn’t care a flying fig about the victims.

And read the labels. Two grocery stores I go to say Compliments brand is Canadian, but many of their labels say “produced for Compliments” or “imported by”. And I’ve found products made in Canada for Canadian companies that aren’t being flagged as 🇨🇦. Check. Always. You might be surprised.

I need to get it done, too, for the same reason, same age bracket. By the time I started Grade 1 (didn’t do kindergarten) measles was pretty much done so I sure didn’t get additional immunity through exposure.
Same - and when I look at film/pictures and what women wore in the 1950s 👠👜 I think with the pandemic, I came to choose comfort over fashion and darn, but it’s hard to turn back! 👚👖👟

I remember my Mom using a wringer when I was little (around 1965). You can see one in the clip above the washing machine. She’d put the wet item in one side, turn a handle continually, and the item would be squeezed through the rollers to wring it out before it goes on the line. Lots of work 🙄

That could be. And with art, sometimes the public has to “grow into it” in order to fully appreciate it, because the artist was so far ahead of their time (ex - Van Gogh). Or perhaps the theme of death and suicide was too close to the losses from the war, as you say - triggering for people

I discovered that years ago when I started watching BBC World News. Totally different perspective. North American news focuses on us; BBC focused on more of the world. We miss so much of the world news here

I used to watch the Bugs Bunny Roadrunner Hour - on the West Coast, it was on at 5:00 pm, then Hockey Night in Canada started at 6:00
I believe it’s based on Elizabeth Zimmerman’s sweater recipes - Budd took the math and put everything into a handy chart, which is lovely (I found EZ’s approach to be very confusing, as I am mathematically challenged).
