Why would you assume weâre talking about the FBS?
The traditional powers were still in the FCS when NDSU started their reign.
I.e. the normal colloquial definition of the US South (and weâre including Texas in that or else itâs less and/or we can go back further on D1)
States that call themselves the south and/or tried to fight the US 165 years ago (and lost đ ) for the express purpose of being able to continue enslaving 40% of the people living in said states.

Pretty sure they played one, yeah. But not sure what that would have to do with NCAA or NAIA playoff championships.
Of note: Since 2021 just three teams from the south have won an NCAA or NAIA playoff championship among all of D1, D2, D3, and NAIA football. And none of those were D1.
For those arguing NDSU (and) SDSU should just go to the C-USA: True contenders need challenges. The xDSUs literally (mean that) play tougher teams in the MVFC and playoffs than theyâd play in the C-USA. Sure, more potential FBS OOC games. But top P4s tend to avoid good G6s đ

Before folks get into âtransitive property isnât realâ arguments, how else should you compare 2 teams week 2 that either played each other or a shared opponent? As the season goes, sure UIW and USD could look better than UWG and Lamar. But why would you rank them as such now?!?
1-1 UIW is #14. 2-0 West Georgia is #25 despite clowning unranked 1-2 Nicholls (who controlled UIW 20-6) 0-2 USD is #12. 1-1 Lamar who beat them is #24 2-0 Presbyterian is behind the 0-1 Mercer they beat If voters arenât going to watch games they can at least look up scores!

Just realized week 6 is now the earliest a team conference member can get to more SoCon wins than Presbyterian. And isnât unreasonable to guess itâll actually take until at least week 7. Which means the Hose likely stay at the top of the SoCon until nearly (or into) October!
Actually letâs amend that: Over 4:1 gets 4 (max allowed any conference) Over 3:1 gets 3, over 2-1 gets 2, over 1:1 one if spots available, over 1:2 1 is available after over 1:1 is covered 1:2 or under still gets none

When the CAA inevitably ends in a 3-way tie, itâs going to be interesting to watch one of them get left out for either the 2nd Ivy or 3rd Patriot team. (Although a single bid SoCon would probably help their cause.)

The MAC strangely gets to exist as FBS just because they managed to fight off the NCAA in the 80s and have earned their little carve out. Not saying theyâre good, but theyâre sorta like the Ivies in the FCS; let them do their thing and they wonât bother anyone except for the occasional upset.
Besides the obvious teams that should drop down (looking at you UMass, and basically the entire C-USA), is there a more obvious team for the FCS than Wyoming joining the Big Sky? Try to say with a straight face that wouldnât be absolutely awesome. (Donât lie, because you canât).

Oh definitely hear ya. But the amount of times a top 15 teams hangs on for 4 weeks (and ultimately ends 4-7) but teams that beat them still get credit for a decent win creates a perception issue.

There really needs to be another reckoning, and we genuinely would love to see Craig Haley purge the low-effort voters in his poll (along with opening up the backend so we can see how folks voted). Because itâs unconscionable that Mercer is still in the Top 25. And likewise that Austin Peay isnât.
Only two teams (Tarleton and Rhode Island) in the Top 10 are from outside the MVFC and Big Sky đ 12 of the Top 25 are from one of those two (6 from each) Then three a piece from the CAA, Southland, and UAC. And one each from the Patriot, SWAC, OVC-Big South, and SoCon.
