I hate to pull age rank but I first saw Carry On Cleo in the cinema. The volume of the explosion of laughter for the "infamy" line was last heard in Dewsbury 20 years earlier and caused by the Luftwaffe.

Apologies for the tone. I was violently agreeing with you!

I'll only get excited by today's Trump statement if a Ouija Board is seen delivered to the White House.

That's pretty much my point. The logical conclusion is a European Super League and the end of Merseyside derbies.

He'd be worth the GDP of a small European country today. I went to university in Birmingham in the late 70s. WBA were a great side.

Don't think the viewing public will be as shocked and upset as in 1984. I'd record it and play it when needing cheering up.

We've not invested in players who can create and/or score goals.

Judging by the number of small children wearing blazers that resemble overcoats "allowing a little bit of room for growth" is alive and well in Yorkshire.

A stat for all of us jumpers for goalposts football supporters. Trevor Francis cost £5.5m at today's prices when he joined Forest.

We've been outwtted by Fulham. The naivete and lack of experience of the recruitment team can be seen from space.
Peter Smith (@redpeter99.bsky.social) reply parent
Fair point on a one off game, which incidentally was a draw, but I doubt whether Grimsby would finish above Man Utd in the Premier League.

The spend of Liverpool in the transfer window, around £450m, is not far south of the total value of my club, Leeds United. #lufc is valued at £520m. Of course, Mandy Rice Davies has an appropriate quote but the disparity is bad news for the future of English football.
Peter Smith (@redpeter99.bsky.social) reply parent
The quality is lacking not the quantity.
Peter Smith (@redpeter99.bsky.social)
Don't think for a minute the transfer window debacle is part of a cunning plan. It's rank f*cking incompetence. Heads will roll but not of those responsible for the shitshow. #lufc

Joe Bugner has died. He was a refugee from Hungary after his country was invaded by the Soviet Union in 1956. Bloody refugee coming over here and becoming one of this country's greatest boxers.
Peter Smith (@redpeter99.bsky.social)
Just imagine how embarrassing the transfer window would have been if #lufc hadn't had months of preparation.

Presumably, he'd have a medical in Cardiff.

It's debatable whether we are stronger at the end of the transfer window than we were at the start. Big mistake to watch the Transfer Show on Sky and see what other clubs are doing. #lufc

Zoe shouldn't be alone in countering the nonsense from Ferrari and the rest of the right wing chatterarti. Where is Labour?
Peter Smith (@redpeter99.bsky.social)
Before we cast our eyes enviously up the A19 at Sunderland it's worth bearing in mind they've not faced anyone decent yet. I hope they, like us, survive but it's far too early to say they've played a blinder in the transfer window. #lufc
Peter Smith (@redpeter99.bsky.social)
It'll make a nice change for Trump to be with someone who loves him. Farage's smoky stale breath will also be good preparation for where Trump is going.

It was a heavy responsibility to bear at such a young age particularly deciding who should have the milk from the absent kids.
Peter Smith (@redpeter99.bsky.social)
The #lufc transfer window is uncannily like the description of a World War One battle plan by #Blackadder. "It started off badly, it tailed off a little in the middle and the less said about the end the better"

The American way of people keeping their job title long after they leave the job is strange. If we did the same in the UK, I'd be Milk Monitor Smith.

A retired TA from our sons' Primary recently passed away. She was in mid 80s and had been at the school from the early 70s to 2020. She knew every child in the school. Her funeral was packed with people whose lives she touched during her career. TAs are too often overlooked. Their impact is huge.

My usual companion for #lufc games is waiting for a replacement knee op. Watching a Bielsa side was painful for him with the regular getting from his seat to stand up. Watching this team doesn't present the same problem.

The biggest clue to whether rumours of Trump's demise are correct is if Melania is seen smiling for once.

Of course, the late Queen was a Remainer. She'd seen the impact of war in Europe as a child and her actions as Head of the Commonwealth showed she knew the value of nations cooperating. Only someone without a functioning cortex would think otherwise.

At least hacks on the Telegraph and Mail staff are spared Angela Rayner entering the newsroom and shouting "show us your cock, young 'un" Scarred for life!

I mistakenly thought today's game was a 3pm kick off not the tea time Sky game. It makes no difference, I just wanted it to be over sooner. #lufc
Peter Smith (@redpeter99.bsky.social)
I know the 12th August is the start of the grouse shooting season but I didn't realise it was also when the craven halfwits in the right wing press began their pathetic anti Angela Rayner campaign. Posh boys are really scared of girls from council estates.

Easy. Unfortunately, the other features of a modern car are truly annoying. Keyless entry, lane assist and a dashboard that has "migraine waiting to happen" on display. The best car I've ever driven is a Mk1 Golf GTI. 4 speed, no power steering, manual windows. Like shit off a hot shovel.

Not the first to point out that the Bielsa era players were good people. Bamford is typical. Generous, empathetic, articulate, self effacing and aware of his role outside football. Whatever the next chapter in his life involves, he'll be a success. #lufc

The right wing press editorial guidelines -Farage in a pub drinking beer and smoking a fag - OK. -Angela Rayner in an inflatable canoe vaping - Not OK

Pat Bamford's career, like most of the promotion side of 2020, reached its peak under Bielsa. The fact that so many players played at the ceiling of their ability so consistently under Bielsa is jaw-dropping. End of an era. #lufc
