Absolutely. I'd prefer not to be using it at all but search engines are comprehensively broken now and writings on matters are becoming scarcer as everyone defers to the stochastics. I lost a bit of internal capability when search engines came in. Without care, I stand to lose a lot more from LLMs.
You know, like we can carry on like we have been before LLMs, and we can all take pride, humanity and a reason for being from the whole situation. Or we can allow "leaders" to make the economic case for abject dehumanisation and grind down everyone who's left.
The amazing thing about mentoring is that juniors not only learn – and damn quickly in a lot of cases – it's also that everyone gets a little bit of oxytocin from the whole encounter. Compare that with pleading with Copilot to for god's sake make the change you've just requested 3 times already.
And that's assuming that the technology can do the work of a junior at the quality of a junior. If it can't, that only speeds up the destruction because now seniors have to babysit the sabotage machine, reducing the amount of senior-level work getting done. Gen AI can't do junior work.
I don't get how people don't realize that a technology that replaces junior and entry level positions in a field destroys that field. There's no skipping steps. You have to be a junior before you can be a senior, and if you don't have senior people, you don't have a field.
