This was always one of the weirder stories my kids asked me to read them. Like, when did bear hunting become family fun? And why did it seem like a good idea to take your kids into a sleeping bear's den? I had so many questions about this story.

After sleeping on it a bit, I think the only issue I had with Weapons is that, if you have a child of a certain age or spectated on the 2019 "storming of Area 51," a bunch of kids doing the Naruto run isn't as creepy as it was intended to be. (Otherwise, the film is crazy good.)

Discovered a trio of these impressive fellas floating in the pool after uncovering it. Two were deceased, but I managed to rescue this one and set it free to borrow into a mulch pile. Google tells me it's a stag beetle. My eyes (and inner bug-loving child) tell me it's super cool.
Update: Spent 3hrs trying to get the pool pump running, only to discover water leaking from inside it (popped seal?). Just bought the pump last summer. Time to throw in the literal & figurative towels, retreat to a cool basement & play a game (currently, Yakuza 4) until I can renew the struggle.
Got a late start on opening the pool this year, but @jess-on-ice.com & I finally got around to discovering what lurked beneath the cover after nine months. As usual, it wasn't pretty, but there was water, at least (which hasn't always been the case). Next step: Getting it swimmable.
