I do think that’s what Nate meant. And I bet you feel like you’ve seen it too. But it’s really not that common a phenomenon. Mostly, such moderate Dems are welcomed or ignored (unless they start haranguing and harassing others for being more left).

The incentives are even worse than that. Until fairly recently, the expected MINIMUM word count was around 20,000 words. Any less and law reviews wouldn’t really take it seriously, and if it was published it didn’t “count” as much for internal metrics and tenure as a “real” or “full” article.

I don't think most Americans realize how hard tariffs are about to hit them. The combination of 1) escalating tariffs, 2) companies slowly passing the cost to consumers, and 3) the repeal of the de minimis exemption in the Big Beautiful Bill, a lot stuff will be more expensive in 2027.

Without a lot more context, I really don’t get why this is supposed to be a scary graph. If anything, the spike seems to be the weird anomaly. Unless you literally think that once it starts falling it *must* go to zero, this just like reverting to a mean from a crazy, unsustainable outlier.

Yes, I just did this. We bought a new TV with Google-smarts (Chromecast or whatever), but I just skipped the “smart” parts of the setup (input your email, connect it to WiFi) and plugged a Roku into the HDMI input.

It may be a somewhat outcome-oriented attitude, if you will, but I find it impossible to disentangle what to believe and what will be done based on that belief. I require a higher standard for, say, locking someone up than criticizing them.
