Traditional media are struggling to stay in business. They’re being bought up by super-rich who want a means of propaganda. They’re less interested in employing unbiased journalists, and more in people who will get their message out.

From experience: the harder you push them the shorter and less informative their answers become. The fundamental issue is that they own their complaints process, and have no skin in the game. The senior execs (who all seem to be right wing appointees) just don’t care what we think.

Sky News may wring its hands now, but much of the blame for that normalisation rests at the feet of the news organisations. They platformed people pushing increasingly extreme viewpoints because they were good for viewing figures. 🤬

I’ve seen things like this propagate through social media before now. Someone on one of the groups that the right wing inhabit (maybe to organise their protests against asylum hotels?) will have posted the idea as a joke, but it takes off and develops a life of its own. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Doisneau was amazing. Went to an exhibition of his work in Oxford some 30yrs ago, and it was incredible. He’s famous for Le Baiser de l'hôtel de ville, but he did so much more.

I fear the UK media has been reduced to a small cadre that simply stoke division to generate clicks. Indeed, it’s a start! But our tax code is insanely complex. It needs dramatic simplification and removal of most of the exceptions that have built up over many decades (often to please lobbyists and donors).

Yes, agree with both of those. Central govt should do what it’s good at (big centralised national things) and local govt should do the local things that are important to their local population. And central govt needs to fund local govt properly and then largely get out of the way.

The trouble is, even an average hatchback is fast enough to get a young driver into difficulties. Big electric SUVs that practically defy the laws of physics (until they suddenly don’t) are even worse. And driver training remains rudimentary…

Seems there are some artists that are completely constrained by their initial success, but blossom once freed. Mark Knopfler is another example - his work post Dire Straits is utterly eclectic, and far more interesting.

I remember her name from the closing credits. She must have influenced at least a generation, possibly two, of children that were enthralled by her production of Blue Peter. What a legacy. RIP.
