So many adults have to fail a child before he ends up 10 years old telling CNN about the mass shooting he lived through this morning
So many adults have to fail a child before he ends up 10 years old telling CNN about the mass shooting he lived through this morning
“My friend Victor saved me though, because he laid on top of me, but he got hit.” A child had to say these words.
Jesus 😔
My god, how do you keep going and try to make sense of the world after that?
I’m a retired Child/Adolescent psych RN and believe me, if the US was a parent, CPS would remove the children that live there. People don’t understand that this kind of trauma is life changing and obviously not in a positive way. We are saddling our children with psychological trauma because of $$$.
I heard that interview and my take away was the child almost sounded like he had been through this before. He had an adult like perspecive of what happened. No child should be diving under pews or desks to save their life. It's exhausting how we repeat the same thng over and over. And move on.....
This child was so brave that he wanted to tell his story. The press didn't approach him, he asked his Grandpa to tell them he wanted to tell his story.
He will have had frequent drills where he was told to consider what they would do in this situation like every other child in America and they are often deeply traumatic generally www.everytown.org/solutions/ac...
😪😪😪😪😪😪😪😪
When i saw those bulletproof desks, I thought. This isn't a solution to a problem, this is people shrugging and giving up on a problem
“bullet proof desks”
school shootings aren’t that big of a problem. 20k kids die DAILY from simple lack of access to fresh water. fewer than 5k die PER YEAR in the usa from mass shootings. if you care about the lives of children there is plenty of low hanging fruit that doesn’t involve rendering millions vulnerable.
They're a big problem because they change your culture. They're a big problem because they traumatize more than just those who directly suffer from it. They're a big problem because it's preventable. You're exemplifying why nobody thinks the US is a beacon of benevolent morality.
i don’t agree. i think the root problem is the media culture. it turns tiny things that are rare into huge memes that overshadow real places for societal improvement. case in point: tobacco kills daily in the us 7x as many as the opioid “crisis”. but that’s not news. emotional decisionmaking.
20k kids *in the US*, the country where the kids get shot? Just trying to figure out what you're saying, since I grew up in the US (the country of the current topic) and my water came from a well contamined by a big-name shoe company and is now a Superfund site. But then you die as an *adult*.
no, in the world. i was saying that if you want to do something about dead kids then there are better ways to spend your time with much higher ROI. the generally accepted idea that gun violence is a big problem in the usa simply isn’t true. it’s just on the news. tobacco kills 15-20x as many, for ex
I think they're trying to compare the US, which claims to be a (so-called, I'm aware of the problems of this terminology) first-world country with, uh, other first-world countries. Where yes, there is gun violence, but nobody asks schools here in NL to buy bullet-proof desks.
americans don’t need bullet proof desks any more than dutch people do. it’s simple media-based fear mongering. you’re twice as likely to die in a car crash, nationwide. if you’re not in six impoverished high-crime counties where the majority of murders happen (not in schools btw), it is like 50x.
Aren't firearm injuries for kids (kids=up to age 19) #2 after cars? That's still messed up (not per se in schools, that ratong is just in general from the CDC)
#1 actually. it’s because america is actually quite safe generally speaking. even the #1 isn’t that big in real numbers, and that includes all gun deaths (suicides included)
Guns are #1? I coulda swor that was cars... am I misreading?
So to be clear I'm thinking the people involved in this thread are Americans who are not per se worried about, say, kids in Yemen dying of cholera. I think because of expectations, mostly.
Like, "why should daily school shootings be the norm in the US when it's not in France?" kinda thing. (the answer is availability. There are simply more guns lying around in some places compared to other places. The people in Europe aren't nicer or anythin, they just have to use knives etc instead)
there aren’t daily school shootings of the kind we are discussing in the usa. that’s why it’s headline news the once every few years it happens. headline news is definitionally rare.
those same people completely covered up the fact that the Columbine boys were nazis. and then they voted for the guy occupying DC. it's a rot at the root of the country.
its fucking terrorism
oh the DOJ agrees they just don't care to actually do anything about it
they worked however , how many desks were killed ? only CHILDREN!
That part
Even worse than that, it's people profiting from the problem instead of trying to fix it.
Capitalism ™ : the system working as intended
Capitalism isn’t the issue. It’s only been around for a few seconds of human existence, whereas the exploitation of humans has been around for all time. Clearly, it's not about capitalism.
Capitalism has systematized, vaporized, and normalized exploitation
Not really. We have far better living standards in free market-based Europe today than we’ve had under any other system in the world. And, to be clear, I’m not necessarily defending capitalism. I’m just contesting this obsessive hatred of it.
That’s true for Europe. But in the U.S. capitalism is behind monetizing our bodies and our health—sickness is just an opportunity to make more money. Also, I’m pretty pissed that the rich people have bought our government for the purpose of getting richer. It’s so normalized nobody seems to care.
it's not even true for Europe. as someone from ex Yugoslavia, people are a lot worse off today - healthcare is less and less accessible every day, costs of living are skyrocketing, wages not keeping up...
Everyone has better living standards than in the past. That's just progress. Free healthcare in Europe is not a capitalist feature. Nor are benefits, or any of the other socialist principles that maintain stability and improve progress.
Capitalism provides a LEGAL basis for exploitation. Most other forms of exploitation have been made illegal, most a long time ago. If guns were a loss making business, who would be advocating for their retention?
You’re missing the wood for the trees. Capitalism is just a costume worn by power. In the West, it's the custome of choice. Elsewhere, power wears other costumes. We’re watching the early stages of a costume change in the US: the Trump regime ditching capitalism for a statist mafia-run economy.
Oh yeah? So them how did Marx predict that the end result of capitalism will inevitably be a fascist state, which is what you're seeing now. When the worker is exploited to the point of breaking, it's either a workers revolution, or an authoritarian crackdown, we are having the latter...
It's not an coincidence that shit started going really wrong in 2008, when the banks crashed. The saving of the banks was the first step to fascism. It was unavoidable, ad capitalism had nicely created the 'too big to fail' concept through its inevitable promoted monopoly power...
..once people are broke, you can convince them of just about anything to make their lives better, getting rid of immigrants, shutting off government assistance, blaming hunter biden etc. If you look at history, EXACTLY the same happened post 1929. Different countries, same result.
Both things can be true. Capitalism is exploitive. It is part of the problem.
Exactly
Going on about capitalism is a gift to the rich. (1) They don’t actually like capitalism. They don’t want to compete - they just want to dominate. (2) If it is just 'capitalism is bad', then Trump should be a left-wing wet dream - he’s tearing down whatever scraps of capitalism are left in America.
Capitalism is bad, but what Trump (and other authoritarian leaders) is replacing it with is worse.
The Rich alao like Socialism when the money flows in one direction - towards them. You are correct. They have no principles other than gaining and hoarding money by any means necessary.
💯 Trump is waging class war, turbocharging the return to a feudal society. I think the Dems, etc. need to communicate tnat democracy, free speech, etc., aren’t just high-minded ideals - they’re our defence against the rich/parasites/criminals at the top. But they can't because, you know...
This is what we can do to stop this. bsky.app/profile/upin...
Yes, the Rich do like Capitalism but only in one direction.
Where to begin on this take... It's giving "the theory of evolution is just a theory" It's giving "irrational numbers aren't a thing because math is always rational" It's a child butting in on an adult conversation to give their VERY SMART opinion Read more post less.
I'm always impressed when someone says "I'm not defending capitalism" After saying "now, capitalism isn't the problem"
It's an an annoying knee-jerk response from most people who don't realize that they have been brainwashed into the normalization of capitalism. They do this without understanding their place as laborers in an inherently adversarial relationship w/ capitalists. (Owners of MOP) siding w/ the adversary
Piss off. Cunts calling me a child when all they’ve got are insults. It’s giving... frustrated - needs to get laid - bitch 😂
....mmm
He is not tearing down capitalism though. He's setting fire to the "free market", capitalism is when wealth dictates your ability to influence policy. You know, like all those private dinners people pay to have with him, or "investing" in his crypto, or funding his campaign. He's leveraging it
Fair enough. I've been using the terms interchangeably, but you've opened my eyes - thank you. I was thinking tariffs (and subsidies and government contracts for welfare queens like Musk) were anti-capitalism, but they're not. They're anti-free market.
Interestingly you also mentioned Feudalism in another post, Feudalism was when landowners had the influence over policy pre English civil war But yes free market is not capitalism is a distinction we should be clear on, most socialist states have a free market still, it works for luxury goods. 🤷🏼♂️
Tell us about 3 school shootings that happened in America before capitalism existed.
Tell me about 3 school shootings that happened before... 1. The constitution was written 2. Columbus arrived 3. The dinosaurs died out Clearly all factors. 🤪
1 Adam Lanza shot some people at a school in Sandy Hook. 2 Michael Carneal shot some people at a school in Paducah. 3 Salvador Ramos shot some people at a school in Uvalde. Everything that happened was before the dinosaurs died out because some of them are still thriving in Australia.
I hope this is a joke Jay, I'm concerned you might believe this bollocks. 🤦♂️
🤣 That's a good one.
Exactly right
This. 👆🏻
Yep. A committee decided they needed to be made, another committee decided they needed to be bought. Someone designed, manufactured and marketed them. Someone requisitioned and installed them. In a school. For little kids.
Taking lessons from the drug industry
After being beat down again and again by the GOP and selfish men. It’s embarrassing and shameful at this point. Democrats need to deliver gun control, health care, and affordable housing. Money out of politics. Restore the VRA. No more incrementalism.
It’s both, which is the worst part. If you profit but your solution solves the problem, ok fine, I can deal with that. But these bullet proof desks and backpacks and militarized police and on-and-on aren’t solving a damned thing. Just putting money on the pockets of scammers.
True
Bingo
💯
No words.
It’s atrocious and disgusting
The statement about Victor, tore my heart out. Who are we? How have we become the adults who make the children responsible for selfish laws. When will we protect the children and let them just be kids. We are pathetic.
This is heartbreaking.
There are tears in my eyes reading this.
I know the kid was in shock but it struck me as so bizarre that a kid who was nearly shot related the story in such a calm, clinical manner.
jfc
i didn't know it was possible to hate anything as much as i hate the United States of America
That was so sad. He spoke like it's just another day in America.
Early maturity. Happens a lot in war zones, when kids just have to cope with rubble and death.
That interview was heartbreaking. Talking ab9ut his friend who lay down on top of him to protect him was the worst part. That poor kiddo shouldn't have to live with the terror (and guilt) that will haunt him forever.
There are thousands of children that are yet to die unless you get rid of the guns you fucking American idiots...
😢..how did grown-ups fail this kid? Seems they failed the one who did the shooting...
An entire society of voters, legislators, gun advocates, etc etc etc have created a society where there are so many guns, and access to them is so easy, that gun violence is the #1 cause of death for children in our country, and they drill for it in school. This isn't the case in other countries.
And they legalized open carry...Once went to a pizza joint and there was a whole family, from mom and dad to a couple teenagers and a couple of children and they were ALL armed with Glocks and had three AR15s slung over their chairs...????...I turned around and left...🙄...😡
Jesus, I hope this isn't true. How can ppl live like this? They live in such fear that they clearly can't function in normal society. The poor kids brainwashed into believing this empowers them versus makes them ridiculous and weak. And then these kids are released into society as adults.
Besides that most blatant experience I see men carrying Glocks on their hip all the time...Live in Montana...
😢
Wow ☹️
Definitely a high chance of gun death in that household
😢
Bout 15yrs ago when open carry was being bantered about in CA I printed up cards saying how I would SUE to hell & back anyone that "defended me" in their claim of protection. Also asking Retail mgrs about the company's Insurance in case of such... Stopped some stores allowing show offs with guns
bsky.app/profile/af68...
Why would his parents allow it? And if his parents weren't around to give permission why did CNN prey on an underage victim for views?
Time to accept the press could care less about the people only profit
bsky.app/profile/af68...
Let a child speak his mind. We force them to do stuff like practice emergency drills… so why is he suddenly too young to speak his mind on what it was like for him? It is time we listen to those little voices. Way past the time ‼️
How soon before Marjorie Taylor Vomit starts stalking these kids, accusing them of being crisis actors?
Well the shooter was transgender, so this one will play out in their favor, so to speak. They're gonna have a field day. 😭💔
Excellent statement!
What shocked me was how matter-of-fact he was. Horrific to watch.
Traumatized and in shock. If the parents allowed this “interview”, they need serious help that the Confessional and 10 Hail Mary’s won’t provide!!
Yeah so does the entire elected republikan party(& those that keep voting for them)who keep voting against common sense gun laws🤨 If you believe the parents of this boy were wrong stfu, kiddos not speaking about this has really made big inroads in stopping these for damn shootings huh?
My thoughts exactly.
That is so true!! They aren't supposed to have to practice every day, in school, for a mass shooting. They aren't supposed to shield each other from the bullets. They aren't supposed to walk away, alive, wondering if their best friend survived saving their lives.
Unless it fits their pre-existing narrative, leftists of a certain political persuasion demonstrate on a routine basis they are incapable of holding a psychotic perp individually responsible for the commission of his heinous acts. ✅ Hater of traditional religious dogma ✅Deranged Trans ✅Trump Hater
Typo? “adults have to fail a child”. What does it mean to fail a child?
I can't bring myself to watch it
😭
The largest portion of which are GOP Congress members
So fucked up
My friend protected me and he got hit. I am still tearing up. I don’t understand why nothing has been done to curb this violence. 🇨🇦 have guns. But it isn’t the basis of our society. Just b/c you have a right doesn’t mean you don’t have a responsibility. That’s what is missing.
..and how his best friend saved his life by covering him up, "and then he got hit" 😞
Our biggest worry in my grade school was going into the hallways during tornado season. 🤨
ALL of the Republican adults are failing them. They are stopping gun reform. This one issue made me register democrat.
bsky.app/profile/moms...
I didn’t even see it. I heard it on the radio, and it broke my heart. What have we done to our kids?
My thought is people need to see this in order to finally get it to through their thick skulls that we need to do better gun control in this country.
While the middle age Republicans complain about the young generation
Agree- that was so painful to watch. Gut punch. Ouch 😢
I thought that was amazingly irresponsible of the parents. But this is the culture now. 😪
Oh, do you mean to let him tell his story publicly? I wondered about that. But I wouldn’t want to judge a choice made about how to handle these horrific circumstances. He may have really wanted to speak. They may have felt it would be good for him to be able to do so. How would a parent even know?
Of the parents? What did I miss? I thought all they did was send their child to school like any other parent?
America is #1! #1 in gun deaths. Child obesity. Healthcare premiums. Utility rates. The list is endless but never positive.
When the child should have been talking to the news about how he won the spelling bee......
Here is what we can do to stop this: bsky.app/profile/upin...
do their parents actually think it helps the children- speaking on national television?! What is wrong with this country- it is so tragic- my heart aches for them
😢😡
Including the producer responsible for putting that kid on air.
My thoughts exactly
That child should never have been interviewed. His parents should know better.
His parents might be in shock. The media should never have even tried. It's a sad indictment that the massacre occurred and that the media has so degraded itself to get to the depths it has.
536 adults, to be specific. (545 if you add the Supreme Court.)
Any politician who has stood in the way of common sense gun reform has blood on their hands! Period!
Absolutely! But I feel the same way about those who vote these monsters in office!
Yeah, but they get plenty of money to wash it away.
How many hungry people could have been fed with the money that Noem has spent trying to torture this man?
If you’re an American, hand in your guns, every single one, to your local police & ask them to destroy it/them while you witness it. Tell all of your friends what you did & how you feel. It’ll take courage but nobody in any level of government has as much guts as you by doing it
bsky.app/profile/5nar...
How many more failed him in the aftermath by agreeing to this interview? He’s a child. Our role as adults is to do this. Children shouldn’t have to describe near death experiences on live TV. Especially when fuck all will change.
Seriously. Do you think Ted fuckin Cruz is going to see this interview and change his mind? Hell no. Cruz is firmly in the “more doors for every building” camp.
And it doesn’t end.
218 as of Today. The fascists are raging forward. Fascists at all gov't levels. I am being ASKED why I am protesting by TEACHERS!!! They had the summer off, why have they missed what is happening? Please do SOMETHING to save Democracy! youtu.be/O6EzqLPbMt8?...
I can’t get that little face out of my thoughts.
The folks interviewing him were just awful, have they never spoken to a human child before?
Seventy-five million will do it.
America is a death cult.
And when a ghoulish reporter interviews a 10 yr old right after he survives a school shooting we are really far gone as a society. Sick.
And the friend who was shot shielding his body saying he's a hero and hopes he doing well in the hospital.
Actually I think it's good that they let a 10 yr old victim tell his story. Maybe now people will wake up and see what these school shootings do to children. I also think they should take pictures of the dead and wounded and show televise them. Show people what an AK whatever does to a child's body
Nothing will move them. They choose guns over children every time. You can’t shock them into suddenly becoming reasonable
If you can send missiles to places such as hospitals and churches and schools then you can do literally anything evil. We just have to fight so the next generation won’t have these situations
like this www.washingtonpost.com/nation/inter...
What that child witnessed was infinitely more traumatizing than talking to the media. Their perspective matters. Stop acting like U$A cares about protecting children.
I post this story every time there is a mass shooting: highline.huffingtonpost.com/articles/en/...
I agree. Maybe something will get through to these ammosexuals!!!
Yes!! The public is inundated in every media with clean sterile pictures of guns & weapons & it's past time that the Public shares the Horror families do of the mangled destruction guns do! Not clean lil target holes but the real Ugliness. Here in America now; not Gaza Not Brave Ukraine but Ours
He is too young to have a say in such a thing if it is deer hunting fine but not this a lot of system has failed them.
I saw part of an interview on local news and “We hadn’t practiced for the church yet so we didn’t know what to do” It just broke me. WTF are we doing? If we as a nation are not going to go to war for our children then we deserve to fall.
The fact that we’ve entirely normalized monthly active shooter drills for our children is beyond horrific. And now will need additional locations 💔
I remember these drills. We even have them at work now.
It’s child abuse.
Including the reporters and editors who thought it was a good idea to put a deeply traumatized child on TV in the aftermath of the horror
Yet I don't think that child's parents are among them necessarily, even though they will potentially feel the most guilt and shame about it
???? Fail ????
That young student did an excellent job of reporting on the mass shooting in Minneapolis yesterday. Children have little or no say on these matters, and they should, 24/7. It's tragic that a 10-yr.-old student had to witness it.🧐
Thank the nra.
If people could stop voting for Republicans, we could end this. Republicans are the roadblock to stopping mass shootings.
"More than 100,000 American children attended a school at which a shooting took place in 2018 and 2019." siepr.stanford.edu/publications...
Utterly disgusting that MSNBC would exploit an obviously traumatized child on national TV..
Disgusting Is that Americans don't want to see or hear the Real Gory details but wait until they can sign a petition for a Parent still begging for Law Changes! The VICTIMS - children families responders are left to absorb the Horrors while the most empathetic say Don't Show Me I can't handle it
@nicollewallace.bsky.social also included him on DeadlineWhiteHouse MSNBC. I had to shut it down. Media personalities continue to disappoint us but won't stand up to Trump. So tired of seeing his face and hearing his voice but hey gotta sell commercial space!
Sad that she felt she need to not say guns should be banned.
I’ll never forget that sweet sweet kind red headed boy. ❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹
I’m inclined to believe kids that have suffered living through this will grow up to be the positive change we need in this world.
Why did his parents allow this?
That wrecked me 💔
bsky.app/profile/af68...
Pedophiles can be president twice
America is the ONLY country in the world that doesn't protect it's children.
I just watched the interview with the child that survived the shooting, very sad what he endured…. This will affect him and the rest of these children for the rest of their lives!
I was standing in the parking lot outside my school only minutes after the gunfire stopped when a reporter shoved a mic in my face and asked me to tell her what happened. This is not unusual.
Our kids deserve guns to be regulated and insured! The insurance industry would embrace this revenue! @governorwalz.mn.gov
Delay, Deny, Reload.
I've been saying that for years. Proper background checks, a gun safety course requirement, an actual gun safe or lock box, and liability insurance are the bare minimums. The higher the fire power, the higher the insurance coverage should be.
Lol how are you going to get people to register and insure their guns if you have no clue where they are
How calm he was, probably still in shock…
BAN ASSAULT WEAPONS NOW!
Including the one who interviewed him.
How the hell did we end up with a whole mainstream press that all grew up watching Die Hard and NOT cheering when Bonnie Bedelia walks up and punches Sleazy Journo in the mouth?
Why we are here again: 1. Easy access to guns, especially assault weapons 2. Indifference to weapons killing innocent people.
The american people are not who they are told they are.
politicalamericans.com/pres-trump-s...
bsky.app/profile/af68...
I couldn't believe they interviewed that child. What ghouls.
...... and so many people will extend thoughts and prayers and head off to buy another gun
And they’re all Republican
We have no adults and it's the most depraved of times because of it We are a morally bankrupt society
Fuck CNN for interviewing children.
So many or just one. That guy who could change it all. Free mental health care for all and sensible gun regulations that gets guns out of the hands of anyone not worthy of wielding ultimate force responsibly.
CNN has zero ethics.
We have stricter regulations on plastic gas can nozzles than on guns
Good question. Adults at every school mass shooting failed their students by not carrying the means to protect them. By the time law enforcement arrives it's too late. Adults fail the children by refusing to be armed, thus making them sitting ducks for these psychos.
Utterly insane. Weapons are prohibited in schools in every civilised country in the world, and in almost every one of those countries school shootings don’t happen. Ever. More weapons means more deaths. Always. How can you people not see that?
And we find the guns everywhere nut. Anything to avoid something as simple as "don't sell guns to everyone who comes in the door. Maybe require a registry and insurance."
Do everything right and those could still be your kids. It's a group failure.
Heartbreaking.
This is on all of us. Thoughts and prayers whiles the little ones were at Mass, praying
I have ☝🏾 question? Did this reporter get permission to speak to this child from his parent? I don’t know about anyone else, but that bitch would have been BALL HEADED after I got a hold of her & in emergency surgery to remove that 🎤 from her behind! The CHILD was in SHOCK!TRAUMA! It’s was CRUEL!IMO
Exactly. So so many. However This interview is as nothing compared to what that little kid experienced on his first day back at school praying seemingly to an indifferent god What is really inappropriate is that in your country guns have more value than his human rights
Watching that made me sick to my stomach.
Fail? Those reporters will be getting a promotion for keeping the epstien files and presidential senility off the front pages!
All it takes is repealing one archaic constitutional amendment, but that's too much like hard work so let's just allow children to be murdered instead.
Systemic failure.
My 8yo came home the first week of school and explained to me how he would be the hero. I was pissed. He was shown a run, hide, fight video.
Time for gun reform? It doesn’t fix everything but it helps against gun violence.
He is blessed to be able to tell his feelings so openly. But I agree, an adult should have talked to the press. Maybe the press should have some scruples too. Their addiction to reality tv reporting is not a endearing quality.
bsky.app/profile/af68...
That video recording will haunt them for the rest of their lives
Preach! Every member of congress that votes against gun control should have to face these families in person. Let’s see how their thoughts & fucking prayers fare then!
All of us failed him and his murdered classmates 😫
The whole country has to fail that child.
Just watched the interview. I'm sorry, but reporters had no business with this child.
Thank u. I 100 % agree.
And CNN again plays the entertainment news game. Going through the motions of feeling sorry for them, yet giving shade to the perpetrators of standing in the way of real gun control, sitting on panels shilling. The NRA GOP, now the MAGA cult and their shills.
Dumpy’s media is a reflection of their mean, pedo, felon ruler. They are vile
I am afraid that the rightwing and the mainstream media will not look at the prevalence of guns that can shoot 50 rounds in seconds, but will focus on the shooter being a Trans woman. The rightwing will decoy the discussion from where it should be.
Just googled it and statistically about 98% of school shooters are cis males. 2% or less are trans. About 9 shooters since 1999 have been female. The numbers vary a small amount depending the source and how the shooting is defined. But by very little.
Statistics are irrelevant when one group lies instinctively. It is likely that 0% of trans women go into women restrooms to check out women, but that doesn’t stop republicans from making up all types of lies about trans women.
They don't care about statistics though. Trump and his cult will have a field day with this. Really, really bad news, I'm afraid, for Republicans assault on the trans community. 😭💔
The right wing will point to ANY factoid other than the easy availability of guns in the USA.
In any other country on earth, the parents who allowed this exploitive interview of a traumatized 10 year old to happen would have the child removed from their care by child and family services. Your country is so fucked up and you fail to recognize the obvious.
It is alarming how this is becoming so frequent now like what is going on this sort of things didn’t happen in our time
As he tells the reporters, "my friend Victor saved my life, he laid on top of me and he got shot in the back". I can't stop crying over this. All those adults need to be sent to prison for having caused all of this since Columbine and Sandy Hook.
My son is a school shooting survivor and witness. He's turning 30 later this week. We're failing our young people
This powerful essay written in the aftermath of Sandy Hook remains moving & relevant today, much to our collective sorrow & shame.
Yes, this essay is evergreen.
Life is short, eternity is forever. AfterDeathTruth.net Be Ready!
It's generational failure.
I've gotten dogpiled and called an asshole because I asked an ammosexual 1 question when he bragged that a gun saved his 12 yr old's life at home during a break in by a convict. "Why was she left alone?"
This is transphobic
Including the adults who put the 10 yr. old on CNN so we all could, you know, know how he feels. we
And no tears.. We have failed our children.
😭
So many adults failed miserably after every single school mass shooting. In the US, it isn't about the slaughter of humans... it is about the gross amount of money coming in from the gun lobbyists, NRA, & gun manufacturing industrial complex
Yes, it’s so heartbreaking what we’ve done to the children of this company.
Did it seem like he was so "matter of fact" while describing the shooting?
Shock.
We, as a nation, need to see a 10 yr old describe a shooting including the classmate who was shot protecting him. Americans need to see what a hypervelocity bullet does to a child's body. Soon enough every American will know someone who was killed in a mass shooting. I do.
It’s heartbreaking how often society fails kids until tragedy forces them into the spotlight. No child should have to survive something like that just to be heard. 💔
how many since columbine?
Every single adult that values their stupid fucking guns over the safety of their children has failed as a human being
America has failed its children. Not protecting them from gun violence and pedophiles is a disgrace to humanity. Many are being conditioned to be cruel, violent, despicable creatures without a conscious.
Sadly pathetic!I get so tired of people telling me it isn't the guns that kill - like if someone walked up and yelled bang it would kill someone!? Well maybe it would these days when the fear of going anywhere, feels less safe!
FUCK these god damn avaricious scumbags, and fuck the parents who allowed the exploitation
338 million adults
That was heartbreaking and brave of that 10 year old.
Just don't show the actual damages I'll watch the documentary when it's cleaned up with digital breaks & soft focus face blurs....
I hate this man so much. I literally check the Wash Post every morning for nothing else but to see if he has croaked yet! That’s all.
remember when they dismembered kashoggi? no problem?
If someone shot his child, he wouldn’t care
I live on the other side of the country, separated by generations, and even I felt like I failed that sweet kid.
Well by now you've had a good cold hard look at the kind of 'adults' we have in this country. I could mold better men out of pigeon droppings.
Shameful.
So incredibly sad this has happened again !!
And the ones who failed him the hardest are the teachers, parents and CNN cameraman who let that nightmare happen.
"he lived through" as a 10 year old is how hateful the 2A people truly are
I'm sorry, they what now?!?! ..................................... Nuke it flood it reboot the universe what the FUCK
Perhaps just the US part of it anyway. Most of the world doesn't put up with mass shootings as a matter of course.
Yeah. Two hundred and sixty odd million of us.
I'm waiting for the RWNJs to call him a "crisis actor"
including the reporter who retraumatized the child by aasking him to relive it it should be illegal for so called journalists to do that shit
And yet same media outlet fails to report on the mass shooting at a Catholic school.
Prolifers are doing this
Just watched that and thought why tf are they interviewing this kid, STOP IT.
Australia doesn't have active shooter drills. How do you people live like this?
One of the local high schools has windows floor to ceiling, interior and exterior. It would be impossible to hide. School of 1200 kids.
Another reason I'd love to move to Australia! Maybe you'll accept teachers and young students as refugees??
Just be careful you don't get allocated to a remote community, unless you like being frustrated or you're an actual saint.
Oooh thank you! I've been teaching ESL at the elementary level for 20 years. Not sure how many language learners Australia has though 🤔

In a state of aghast disgust.
We don't live. We simply exist. My 21 year old son is worried because these shootings barely even register for him anymore as they are so common and relentless. He was worried that there was something wrong with him and I assured him he is desensitized, but not dead inside.
🫂
Great
I refuse to participate. I don’t have the emotional capacity for that.

How did the English live under a tyranical king? We have a lot of problems that are VERY baked into the cake. Enforced by violence and threats of violence to our families. The real reason we don't have universal healthcare is so we can be threatened with homelessness for unionizing or protesting
We've got a king, but the constitution is worded in such a way that if he tried any unpopular shit we'd declare a republic. This almost happened in the 90s.
Oh really? Martial law isn't very popular but it's happening right now anyway with Chicago next.
We're talking about AUSTRALIA 🇦🇺 Jeez dude, I'm glad you are against Trump, but you gotta read the posts.
Well if you get the chance to go for it, do better than we did... the "beta test" version of constitutional republic, needs a patch. Sighhhh... gotta laugh or ya just cry all day....
We're not living. We're dying in place. Signed, and educator
🫂
Who can't spell..."an" I plead tears in my eyes for the error.
Many of us don't end up living.
Our kids and teachers die like this.
We ask ourselves this every damned day.
Same Bullshit reporting by the major networks.
The child wanted to talk, his mother was right there next to him; she spoke as well. If the child wanted to talk, he should be allowed to talk. Kids deal differently with things, just like adults deal differently with things. He had poise, grace, & he wanted to say good things about his friend.
And seemingly, strangely calm.😕
Actually, it’s exactly 535 adults who have let us all down.
Breaks my heart. WTAF are we doing? Guns are not more important than our children’s safety.
The upside is that with so many people armed in the US, there will never be a tyrant because people will take up arms if anyone tries.
Hahaha, good one!
I was angry and sick that @cnn.com did that... and I commented on their post. I think that you really have to be bottom feeding scum to interview this 10 year old kid who is going through such a traumatic existential crisis. Just my opinion but fuck you, @CNN 🖕
It’s the same ones. The gun lobby and their enablers. The propaganda machines which make gun ownership sacred. And the Supreme Court ruling that a well regulated militia meant individual gun nuts.
Its clearly US culture. What other nation has this problem? Everyone blames guns etc. Its our culture. We are on a whole very unhappy
It’s your culture.. your GUN culture. Everybody blames the guns because it’s the guns.
The gun culture is just part of the bigger culture
I haven't read the shooters note yet, but I bet its not about guns
Switzerland has many guns too. They have some mass shootings but not much and not random like church or school shootings. You see how it must be US culture? 1 in 4 people are on antidepressants. I mean that alone pounts to cultural problems. People are not happy. Future looks bleak
USA has 120 civilian guns per 100 people. Switzerland has 28. It’s not 1 in 4 people on antidepressants- it’s 1 in 10. That number is higher in many countries, including Australia, Canada and the UK. Countries with almost no mass shootings. You see how must be the guns?
Don’t you get tired of making excuses? Children are dying FFS. It’s. The. Guns.
Well guns are a problem but that can't be it. Its much more for someone to go and kill b7nches of innocent people. I mean middle eastern countries are full of guns. They have terrorism but that different. Its our culture
“but that can't be it”. Yes it can. It really can. Every other country in the world understands this.
Switzerland has many guns too. Why aren't they seeing daily mass shootings? Its our culture, not just guns
USA has more than triple the number of guns per person than Switzerland. Start by removing 70% of the guns in the USA so the stats are comparable, and then we can talk about culture. It’s the guns.
Isn't your approach much like a right wing approach? Always getting tough on crime but never going after the cause, eliminating poverty would reduce most of the crimes.
The cause of gun crime is guns. Eliminating guns would reduce most of the gun crimes. See how that works?
That's not my point. I'm for more guns regulations. But as I said this I similiar in ideology as Right wing solving crime by building a police state and more prisons instead of a war on poverty. What I the come problem that causes people to commit these horrible crimes.
A police state? More prisons? WTF are you talking about?
But its legal and in the constitution we can have guns I agree military style should be banned again. But I you were correct then Switzerland would still show far more mass shootings then it does.
It’s an Amendment - amend it. EVERY other country has fewer guns than the USA. EVERY other country has fewer mass shootings than the USA. Talk about culture all you like but the numbers don’t lie. The country with the most guns is the country with the most gun deaths. Not a coincidence.
And we are a gun culture who seem to have been taught that the way you express unhappiness is by shooting people.
I think there is more to it. It has to be a mental health crisis. Imagine the despair I must take to get there. Or in terrorism the pure hate. If I wasn't guns I would be something else, bombs, cars etc
Bombs are already illegal. You basically just need strategically set up cement barriers to protect against cars being used for mass killing. Besides if cars were as effective we’d be arming our soldiers with cars instead of guns. Military-style guns are the weapon of choice for mass killing
I know they are. I agree they should be illegal. It would make it much harder to kill mass people. But I personally don't think the core problem is the guns. Its our culture that is driving these people to do these acts. Two pronged approach. Do you think its just guns?
I agree there is a problem with hurt egos and the expectation that we must always take revenge. But unless you are wealthy enough to hire a high end lawyer or run for President, the message is clear: express your rage through military-style, high capacity guns.
Well suicide is way up too. Many by gun. Would it stop suicide? No. It would probably stop some though. I agree, ban military style guns.
USA has more gun suicides than the rest of the world COMBINED. More than double the rate per capita than the next highest country. Again - highest gun ownership, highest gun suicide rate. Again - not a coincidence. Again - it’s the guns. What is it going to take for you people to get it?
" you people" what you mean by that? BTW, is that per capita? US is huge. I don't care what you people say, its not just the guns, its our culture. Do you really think the US culture is healthy? 1 in 4 on antidepressants.
Yes, it’s per capita. No, 25% of you are not on antidepressants- it’s 11%. Way lower than comparable countries. Stop making shit up and hiding your head in the sand. You have no excuse for this ignorance - the truth is there for all to see.
Children have to do mass shooting drills and then media training
When I was a kid, we had to do duck and cover drills for nuclear attack. We never had to actually use that training, unlike whets going on today.
I think it is reprehensible for the media to be interviewing those children. Even if the children want to be interviewed, they are children, and the adults should be adults and not let them.
That was my first reaction, yet the reporters I heard were pretty remarkable with the kids. And while it still seems wrong, if they have to live through it, their voices and experiences should be shared without editing. The “adults” should have done a lot more much earlier.
when and if THEY choose...
Thank you give them a break they just saw their friends shot doing prayers
Oh shut up with this crap. This is the internet in 2025. What's reprehensible is the fucking pearl clutching dramatics about bullshit meanwhile there's no action on actual fucking violence against us and our children.
Nah... I think when there's a school shooting, they should show the splattered classrooms on the 6 oclock news while these gun nuts are sitting down to their rare steak dinners I am so sick of this country, and it's covering the true horrors It's why so many still deny israel's ongoing genocide
"Please don't show me the evil"
no... she didn't say she doesn't want to see the news coverage… she said she doesn't want to see children interviewed literally within hours of the event, and I agree ...
I’d say you just missed the point, but then I realize it was intentional.
Abuse. Exploitation. Traumatization.
The media do the interviews because the adults watch, thereby increasing the ratings. Then the adults who watched complain about it and other adults feel compelled to watch to see what the fuss is all about, thereby increasing the ratings even more.
I wanted to agree when I 1st heard. then the reporter came on radio he explained the kids are hands off, then the parents came to him and said their son wanted to talk and give the praise to his classmate and let everyone know the boy was a hero. he says saved him and took one because of it.
Thanks for that information. I wondered if that was the reason.
Maybe that is what the adults who failed these children need to see and hear. Straight from a survivors mouth. Nothing has worked prior. Who am I kidding? Americas Right doesn't care for its children, just their pockets.
I’m glad they did and no, it’s not evil. Americans have done sweet fuck all to protect children in their spaces. We all want to talk about the children, but you don’t want to hear from the kids themselves? Come on. Being on TV is the very least of that child’s problems right now.
Media training???? Genuinely?
As in part of the curriculum?
bsky.app/profile/af68...
Well thank God, maybe they will be able to put together their own lobby before high school, because we as a nation, have failed these children.
It was so heartbreaking listening to this child and what he had experienced. This should not be the norm, but that is exactly what we are doing, normalizing these senseless tragedies. 😥
Sad 😞 and shameful.
Boycott CNN. “If it bleeds, it leads” is their motto. Disgusting “interviewing” a traumatized child. And where in the hell were the parents that allowed it?
A raft of otters. A murder of crows. A gaggle of geese. A caucus of adults who fail children.
Well done America! #NRA #churchshooting #massshootingusa #childrenmurdered
but hey at least when there's a tyrannical regime the 2A crowd will rise up to save the day ....right? right? ...ok maybe we let a bunch of kids for corporate profits and weird antisocial hobbyists
And let us not forget how relaxed kids look describing this now .. like it’s just another fucking normal day .. it’s not .. and that’s what republicans want and vote for .. for these atrocities to just be another normal day ..
What will be the cumulative effect of shooter drills starting at a very young age, for a whole generation? What will that look like over a nation's population? I fear for the mental health of the soon to be adults who had to learn this stuff at a young age. What does it do to the sense of self?
My initial Disability is from an Armed Robbery with hostages. Store owner kept media to zip I saw & caught robber & owner hid info. Guy bailed ran was caught later multiple shooting at Bank kidnapping 2 Children... Media coverage would have Stopped him at #1 robbery. Thank Media coverage
🇺🇸
I don't know which is more horrid -- kids getting murdered in school or in church, or kids witnessing their friends being murdered and surviving to tell about it. All our parents had to worry about was cap pistols and toy soldiers.
CNN interviewed a 10 year old? Sounds about right
😢😞😢😞
We need to start calling these abortions in the 430th trimester to get something done
I was literally screaming in my car listening to this CHILD on MSNBC. Shame!!
Truth...what a nightmare.
And CNN should be fined for interviewing a child under these circumstances! What is wrong with people, what is wrong with this journalist? Does no one in this profession have any sense?
Gun control - children have the right to go to school, a place of worship, the cinema, etc, without the fear of being killed or traumatized by their friends being killed.
Need armed security in schools. That’s the way of today’s world. Too many psychopaths and they target schools because they aren’t protected.
So the answer is to have more guns? Here's a radical thought - how about less guns on the streets.
You’ll never have that. There are over 400,000,000 legally owned firearms in America.
Oh, I know. The American people have been brainwashed by gun manufacturers into buying them. Hopefully, there can be a grassroots sea change. Too many children die from gsws in the USA.
Do they?
Well, you could make an argument for Article 6 of the UNCRC and the "unalienable Rights" in the declaration of independence? In fairness, I should have written "should have," but it was an emotional response to another horrific school shooting.
I think I am for protecting this child, and his future. However, I doubt Americans will let him drift on to create a life.
I think back to the schoolkids in Uvalde who survived by playing dead. What a disgrace.
Exactly. A 10 year old. In many states this would not be counted as a mass shooting because “only” 2 people died. The standard is different from state to state because the CDC is not allowed to research gun violence…. This country refuses to believe that schoolchildren matter.
Seriously? There were 19 people either injured or killed in one event, not including the shooter. Pretty sure we can call this a mass shooting event.
Yes, common sense description. The term is just defined differently by the data collectors in states. It leaves a lot of broken lives uncounted.
Oh god. True.
Please my friend save my child's life Please help me My child is very tired He can't breathe His body is turning blue and he is suffocating Please save my child's life Please he is in dire need of the device Please. A generous amount of $500 So I can collect the price of the device 😭😭😭
The idiot politicians who keep blocking the gun control measures the majority of Americans want should have to speak to the 1st Responders on scene, view the crime scene photos, the autopsy reports & attend EVERY funeral of their constituents kids
Yes, war zone carnage in grade schools that their neighbors, friends, acquaintances have to deal with & clean up after & comfort the survivors
Australia is recruiting nuclear scientists, preferably with quantum computing and basic ai - some rocket science an asset. haha. apply to the relevant places. haha. if u are a nuke sprog then u know how to find the application page. haha.
Every Republican: "Thoughts and prayers, Too soon, Cold dead hand." Repeat every few days.
Reporter is a fiend. Farcical tragic obscene. “Hey I’ve got a ten year old here ready to do an interview about the shooting he just lived through , what do you think ?” Producer….”If it bleeds it leads put the little fellow on!”
Including and especially CNN
Including the ones who work at CNN.
This is the main reason we supported the March For Our Lives kids, and now is the reason we support David Hogg and Leaders We Deserve. I'm 82, but I see the need for fresh young minds who would add more depth to the Democratic Party at this most critical time. Consider Joining. leaderswedeserve.com
So long as corrupt legislators, bribed, or otherwise "influenced" by the Billionaire Class with corporations that profit hugely out of selling deadly, state of the art weapons to anyone, no matter how insecure, how depraved, how mentally unstable, then your children will pay with their lives.
Most of those adults are members of Congress.
