Not least as I don't think he is on the Roll any longer anyway. Odd legal "career" all round - seemingly fast tracked to Tory central office via v junior grind for 15 mins at a couple of White Shoe firms before a nice corp directorship by 30. But not worth striking off.

Brilliant defence that, isn't it? "This can't be a crime as we sort of expected it of you"
Rob Blundell (@robblundell.bsky.social) reply parent
It's partly because it was financial crime and impropriety. People couldn't see the bags of loot, and so the perpetrators (quite rightly) assumed that Hoi polloi would tire of it and move on. Ten years after Panama, I see Companies House is now slightly changing ID regulation.

Do I get points for nearly pointing out an issue but then holding myself back from it as it would be tedious? (Then do I lose points for this?)

I'm more astounded that (1) some people somewhere must be paying these people to "influence", and (2) some (presumably a lot) are duly influenced to make this worthwhile. I'd save ire for the above rather than the pouty worker.

I fear the artist who did the gate guardians was working off someone else's, very loose, description of a sphinx, whilst having quite something else on his* mind. "Did you do the enigmatic sphinx?" "Yes boss, really enigmatic and sexy just like you asked..." "Wha...!?" (*Oh, a bloke did this)

My partner's nephew starts big school tomorrow - and he recently beat me fair and square at chess for the first time. I have been practicing and working on my game - and I have no doubt that I am on a losing wicket here, and future beatings from him will come more and more frequently. It's ace.

You could only do this in an American house as they don't believe in masonry in the midwest (other than for tornado shelters), and houses are essentially flat pack joinery just like set building. They do have a lot of space though (and then waste it on parking and grass)

Is that a solution to preserve the notion of "free choice"? Say "Do you want this vaccine for your child? You are free to say no but if the child then dies or contracts the disease you could have prevented then you accept you will bear liability?"

I do wonder what she feels about vaccines now. Is she still a true believer, thinks herself "unlucky"? Would she advocate for vaccines for her other children or herself now?

I only got the Moor St route once, in about 1997, as it was so much cheaper for a student. The journey down to see my gf at uni was a delightful potter through the shires. I got dumped on arrival. Can't remember journey back; am sure it was grey and bleak.

This year at a festival my daughter (surprisingly not that tall, given I am) couldn't see Franz Ferdinand and so went on my shoulders for "Take Me Out" She got the whole song, mainly because my knees locked and I wasn't actually sure putting her down wouldn't injure one or both of us.

I had this at the cinema the other night - a "behind the scenes" of The Roses followed a bit later by the cinema trailer for The Roses. Sorry I didn't see if they left out crediting anyone they shouldn't have, as was too busy thinking a film that needed two big plugs was probably shite.

A lamb stays a lamb until it is pretty big at one year old. Don't fret though, the one you are eating had the body of a fully grown adult, but the mind (hopes and dreams) of a lamb. And now you feel even more like a monster than when you thought you were eating the cute small one.

This is a great observation. The other way around is to ask: Q: "1. Why are populists so alluring?" A: Because they offer quick fixes Q: "2. If fix is quick, why haven't we done it already?" A: Because it doesn't work. So go back to step 1 and choose someone "not alluring" who disagrees with you.

A good yardstick for whether you respect somebody is whether you care enough to argue with them when they're wrong. By which yardstick, it's about a decade and a half since any UK politician demonstrated respect to the electorate.
