Not least as I don't think he is on the Roll any longer anyway. Odd legal "career" all round - seemingly fast tracked to Tory central office via v junior grind for 15 mins at a couple of White Shoe firms before a nice corp directorship by 30. But not worth striking off.

Brilliant defence that, isn't it? "This can't be a crime as we sort of expected it of you"

It's partly because it was financial crime and impropriety. People couldn't see the bags of loot, and so the perpetrators (quite rightly) assumed that Hoi polloi would tire of it and move on. Ten years after Panama, I see Companies House is now slightly changing ID regulation.

Do I get points for nearly pointing out an issue but then holding myself back from it as it would be tedious? (Then do I lose points for this?)

I'm more astounded that (1) some people somewhere must be paying these people to "influence", and (2) some (presumably a lot) are duly influenced to make this worthwhile. I'd save ire for the above rather than the pouty worker.

I fear the artist who did the gate guardians was working off someone else's, very loose, description of a sphinx, whilst having quite something else on his* mind. "Did you do the enigmatic sphinx?" "Yes boss, really enigmatic and sexy just like you asked..." "Wha...!?" (*Oh, a bloke did this)

Gateposts at Bramham Park, Leeds. The sphinx is so busty she should have a headset on and be on the Blonde Ambition tour.

You could only do this in an American house as they don't believe in masonry in the midwest (other than for tornado shelters), and houses are essentially flat pack joinery just like set building. They do have a lot of space though (and then waste it on parking and grass)

This is a great observation. The other way around is to ask: Q: "1. Why are populists so alluring?" A: Because they offer quick fixes Q: "2. If fix is quick, why haven't we done it already?" A: Because it doesn't work. So go back to step 1 and choose someone "not alluring" who disagrees with you.

We snuck in a quick BBQ this evening. Raging against the dying of the light.

Is he a misery because he lives remotely or vice versa? Or indeed neither. I used to live up a 2 mile dead end in the moors, and was pretty cheery there!

Tldr; gobshites desperate for a scrap to provide some tawdry excitement in their dull, dull, failures of mundane existences.

Of course they're hoping that if they get frenetic enough one of their less measured cohort will start the violence for them. It's why they're anonymously posting on FB in my local town to start protests outside buildings merely suspected of housing immigrants.

Had this argument with someone recently who was otherwise educated and rational. Ended up with me asking him if he wanted RN personnel to shoot at unarmed people in boats. Or if they wouldn't do it, whether he would do the shooting himself. Tldr; gobshites.

You know that "good cinema" you like, and which we can both picture in our minds? Almost impossible due to the godawful film distribution agreements by the oligopoly of distributors. My local picture house needs the Marvels, etc, to pay bills, but is then barred from anything "special".

How about £2bn and every home gets a musical instrument and six weeks of lessons, or maybe a tennis racquet? I should work in policy. I'd be great at it.

Seen a trailer and it looks like "everyman John Wick, with added twist it's that nice guy from off of breaking bad no the other one"

Can I swap it for an online product that might actually not give me nosebleeds? Instead of OpenAI or Adobe, could we just have Sibelius for music transcription, or maybe a game engine, to support industry in which we actually lead already. Sod it, I'd take an Office sub over this.

They inevitably double back along the route once they finish their own run to cheer you on energetically for your last km. You wish nothing but death upon them.

No matter what your pace it seems like law that every parkrun also has a 60 year old (made entirely out of sinew) who runs a 20:00, having also run there from home.
