Really loved doing memorials and treating that day like a national holiday when teaching middle school with kids who were too young to remember and middle schoolers so didn’t care about it. The length of time we held on to that mattering was, well, very American.

I only taught traditional K-12 from 2007-2014, so caveats there. But I did find that with most things it was a “pick your battles” sort of mentality. For me it had to do with the backing from administration, then the amount of disruption it caused to other kids learning; in that order.
