I understand. All the different muscles and finger tips certainly get used when pinning quilts. Sometimes when I am pinning a large quilt, I put several layers of paint masking tape over my thumb and forefingers to create a temporary thimble to protect them when closing the pins.
Ruth McMonagle (@ruthmcmonagle.bsky.social) reply parent
You dont. It's okay to let them go, and do nothing for a while. I used to paint. After a long sickness, I didn't want to do it anymore. After a time, the need to create returned. I found textiles and played with colour that way.
Ruth McMonagle (@ruthmcmonagle.bsky.social) reply parent
the younger urchin would close them up for me afterwards. He would race to see how fast he could do it! Older urchin stopped closing them while he was pinning, as we noticed how much easier on the hands, it was to close all the pins at once at the end, than individually while pinning the quilt. 2/.

Pinning. This started by an accident, and I have continued the process. I broke my hand many years ago. I had difficulty pinning quilts, so I got my urchins to help. The older one helped me pinning, as my hand got tired, so we would start opposite each other. As I couldn't close the pin, 1/n
