how dare they point out that maybe my decision paralysis today was related to the fact that i am literally starting a business and building a private practice while doing agency work and even when i took time off in august it was Doing Things the Whole Time because of ppl visiting from out of state
my therapist also told me i am pushing myself too hard and gave me therapy homework to have unstructured rest time this week so that's maddening (they're right but i don't have to like it)

thanks! i ended up settling on my philosophy and therapeutic approach being significantly different enough that this is not always a good fit for folks who find that model foundational to recovery/sobriety
(worth noting from the other other side of the couch that i'm someone who clawed their way into mostly sober kicking and screaming without using the 12 steps, and I'm both grateful I did and frustrated that it's the only game in town so often)
no worries, I ended up settling on stating that my philosophy & approach are different than the 12 step model & "my methods and approach may not be the right fit for you." i just need to have some specific scripts for it because it'll come up again, i'm sure
abstinence is the *only* valid way to engage in substance use recovery. add to that my many beefs with 12-step approach, language, culture, and evangelism, and that they are often the only game in town for folks getting sober? i get twitchy.
ultimately my thought process is to work on understanding and using an individual's motivation to engage in recovery - and for a lot of folks, total abstinence is what does ultimately work best! i tend to get Twitchy when it comes to the specific model of sobriety/recovery that posits that total --
because. i Do Not. (power to you if you have held onto sobriety through it. the way 12-steps approach substance use and abuse *do not work for most people*. and folks who DO believe the model are Zealous about that + abstinence being The Only Way to Approach Recovery/Sobriety.)

The night before it hit I was working my overnight shift and on the phone with a friend who lived in the area begging her to say fuck her minimum wage retail job and evacuate. She did choose to evacuate - almost too late because of the traffic on the way out.

I'm really quite tired with many parts of my life and while I'm working on changing them long term they are still here and now.
The neighbor kids upstairs whose job it is to take out the trash haven't yet, so if I continue to not be able to get back to sleep I'm going to do it before it gets forgotten.
Woke up at 5:30 am, about 5 hours after I fell asleep. Anxiety is high. Making myself quite sick in the head with wanting to live on my own and knowing that's not an option right now.

any time you mask around other people can help. it doesn't have to be all or nothing, if that intimidates you. ESPECIALLY if you try to mask where people MUST be. doctors offices, grocery store, pharmacy, etc. they're all trying to kill us. you gotta do what you can to make their attempts fail
You can do it because you want to be a better friend/partner/sibling/parent, but it's gotta be for you. Because*you* want to be better at supporting them.
Recovery shit that needs to be said over and over: you can start recovery motivated by others but it's going to fall apart if you can't find a way to do it *for you*. You deserve to have more tools and new perspectives and ways to cope.

High school ex reached out today out of the blue, kind of wild.
I have started to discuss the things I was raised with and exposed to as cult like. Dobson was a major figure in my mother's right wing radicalization. It's really sickening to understand the immense damage he did.
This series helped me to contextualize a lot of the abuse I experienced as a queer, ND, disabled child being homeschooled in evangelical faith circles. It's a tough read, but very worthwhile.

That's not what all therapy is like, but it took me a while to find a therapist who I felt comfortable wouldn't do that to me. It really helped to find a trans therapist with formal DBT training. It's deeply fucked and also sucks that you are having this experience!!

- Work on a draft for a script for introducing what you are skilled in working with (trans and queer, physical disability, ace folks, poly folks, etc.) and how to offer the parts of what a referral is asking for.
therapy hw: - Focus on building things sustainable. When you do too much it can crumble. Doing some, seeing how it goes, then doing more is best practice. - Think about how it is possible to leave the house more than once per week. Think about [redacted] to think about how to prioritize this.
