Yesterday I chaired a Senate inquiry hearing into the aged care system. The findings are SHOCKING. No new home care packages have been released since June and the govt admitted that 121,000 people are waiting to get on the waitlist. That's on top of the 87,000 actually on the waitlist.

This is totally wrong.... The laws, which passed Victoria's upper house earlier this week, give authorised officers the power to use "reasonable force" to enter properties. Those who obstruct, hinder or delay access to such officers face fines of several thousand dollars.

Ageism is definitely a problem as is being 'overqualified'. The other is the aged pension. People risk losing the pension but can't earn enough to live without it, especially the concession card.

Good article. Regarding space, it depends on who is living in the home, if you wfh, have multiple generations living under the same roof as well as 'me time' space. The other issue of stamp duty is definitely a barrier to downsizing.

They should use median, not average. Average is inflated by the skew to very high income earners. Average should only be used for "normal" data distributions. In August 2024: Median employee earnings in main job was $1,396 per week, up $96 (7.4%) since August 2023.

The proposed EV road-user charge is unfair & not what the Productivity Commission recommended. Any road-user charge should be part of a national, equitable reform that applies to all vehicles. It should replace the outdated fuel excise & reflect the true cost and emissions impact of transport.
