The Bush administration disappeared people too, sent them to a different gulag at Gitmo and other black sites, kidnapped people off the street of Milan, tortured them, in the name of "a different kind of war." We didn't come close to holding them accountable. We're seeing the cost of that now.

And it's impossible to ignore that the "inferior" authentic image - Princess Mononoke, standing proud, with a look of defiance, is considered inferior to the submissive looking girl, crouching with her legs open, warmly looking at the viewer. AI's logical conclusion is feeding everyone pornography.
Science Ninjas (@scienceninjas.bsky.social) reply parent
This is what drives me nuts about all these "animated remakes" where they talk about how long it took to "make." You applied a filter to something someone already created. it's like Columbus claiming he discovered America.
Science Ninjas (@scienceninjas.bsky.social) reply parent
If the image on the right looks good, it's because there is an immaculate character design crafted by a master, the lattice the other image is draped over.
Science Ninjas (@scienceninjas.bsky.social) reply parent
Won't tell you the image on the right sucks - it's technically impressive. But adding detail trade's away the image's cartoon-ness - it's innate ability to convince the viewer of it's soul. Which image provokes more emotion is always the relevant question for art.
Science Ninjas (@scienceninjas.bsky.social) reply parent
Like, this knucklehead says it's not special "when separated from those stories it's been used in and the quality of the animation." Pretty big caveats there! "the image on the left sucks when you forget that it's magical"
Science Ninjas (@scienceninjas.bsky.social)
This has been haunting me. It's not even AI's performance, which I think at this stage has more misses than hits, it's the sort of glee a certain person takes in devaluing the original artwork
Science Ninjas (@scienceninjas.bsky.social)
Giving up on x - don't call it twitter - and will be posting here more? X is a front row to the ascendant cruelty of the zeitgest - just too much to bear. Probably bad for my science card game brand to post about AI loving philistines and Salvadorian gulags but whatevs
