Apropos of nothing, the average person wildly overestimates the link between “being able to debate effectively” and “being right on an issue.” Anyone with debate experience understands that you can “win” the argument from either side, and proves nothing aside from your rhetorical skills.

Today is my parents’ 60th wedding anniversary. They have been wonderful models of a successful marriage, and providing kids with a drama-free, functional childhood. I appreciate them every day, and understand how lucky I am.

I understand the resistance, but it felt to me like a deliberate attempt *not* to be connected specificially with the previous version ... for all the good that did.
