You might consider looking at a well-kept-up used one. Old Singers were built well. My late Momās 1940s/50s Singer still works as does my own entry-level 1970s Singer last I heard. Now use a year 2000 Bernina but I rarely use the expensive features. Boomer may be ready to downsize good ones.
