The RFK hearing is a remarkable example of someone in real-time being informed about where they are on the Dunning-Kruger curve.
Also, he has a lot of money and clout. At any point, he could fund his own passion project to show off his acting abilities instead of continuing to go to the gym, making more car movies, or remaking the one movie that didn’t require him to look good or do any action only now with his real muscles.
And gay people were asked to forgo certain jobs, certain activities, and even marriage because straight people had irrational fears or opinions about how they’d be affected. It shouldn’t be hard for people like Malcolm Gladwell or Scott Thompson to understand if they just took 2 seconds to think.
Segregation was just people of color being told to prioritize white citizens and give them the better seats or better facilities, or act in a way that made white people more comfortable at their own expense.
And it shouldn’t take much imagination to empathize. How often are immigrants asked to speak or only use forms written in English which they are less comfortable with just to make English speakers more comfortable.

I think most people and insurance companies want us to get vaccinated so even if the government discourages it, they’ll be accommodating. And the list of “at risk” conditions is pretty broad including “sedentary lifestyle” which is pretty subjective, or having a high BMI.
If you think trans people should wait to seek medical care or hormone treatment, you’re asking them to risk their own physical and mental health in consideration of the anxiety of cis people around them. Nowhere else would we think this was acceptable.
If you think trans people should use the pronouns or the bathroom associated with their chromosomal sex, you’re asking them to forgo their own comfort and well-being so that other people can be more comfortable without any uncertainty.
If you think trans people should play sports because it’s unfair - something not supported by the evidence - you’re asking people to forgo their own ambitions so other people can succeed and that those people deserve to succeed because they are cisgender whereas you don’t because you’re trans.
That said, a lot of this anti-trans rhetoric comes down to 2 things. Either they think trans people don’t exist and are thus just confused cis people, or they think they do but think they should put the needs of cis people before them. Both are just treating them as 2nd class people.
It’s easy for cis people to say some really ignorant stuff about trans people because they haven’t actually thought any of it through because they haven’t had to and likely haven’t talked to any trans people about it.

I don’t know if it’s NJ, CVS, my insurance company, or a combination but nobody asked me for an exemption or charged me for it.

I miss the days when the Secretary of Defense giving the National Guard illegal orders that would lead to them violating the law and the constitution would get that guy removed from office.

The courts ruled that Trump’s tariffs were illegal. They ruled that Trump’s deployment of the National Guard in L.A. was illegal. They ruled that Trump’s removal of people to foreign countries without due process was illegal. He’s a criminal committing crimes and should be stopped.
It stands out to me that one of the things he lists is “marry early.” Because if you’re going to work 72 hours a week and never be home, you’re going to need someone to do all the things to maintain your life without having to show them attention because they’re legally obligated to you now.
He didn’t say that. He said that the decline in performance was situational and not proportional to how long the schools were closed, and the one thing that was tied to school closures was how many children died. I can’t imagine you think kids dying was a good idea.
In the coming days, we expect to see what's playing out in LA and DC happen in Chicago. These efforts are not about fighting crime or making communities safer. This is about Donald Trump testing his power and producing political drama to cover up his own corruption.

That’s why I’m irked when journalists say the Trump administration wants to bring manufacturing back to the U.S. They don’t. They want to bring third-world style manufacturing here. They want to end our unions and strip our worker protections and get 12 year olds working in factories for pennies.
You could also have slightly lower executive pay. Because that’s most of the cost of these items: corporate and marketing costs, which are the same wherever they manufacture the stuff. The real reason is the legal protections here are higher, so they get away with fewer abuses (though still some)
We’re sold a lie that it’s cost-prohibitive to make things in the U.S. because labor costs are so much higher than in other countries. And while we do pay more, that cost is still marginal and still often poverty-level. You could keep the price the same and just have slightly lower profits.

The people who complain about Bluesky are people who can’t get engagement without bots or trolls.
They’re not hiding Trump because he’s dead. They’re hiding him because his strokes have probably made him more focused and coherent which will highlight how senile he was already.
I mean, imagine how terrible that would be. Their dogs will never hold down a job, or get married, or use the bathroom by themselves.
That likely would have happened anyway. At least once Trump is gone, we can start rehiring the people whose job it is to track and prevent those threats.
They’re fundamentally cowards, so I think a lot of them will lose their nerve without Trump around to pardon them if things go south. They’ll just retreat to the dark web to spread conspiracies about how Trump is still alive and faked his death to go after the Clintons but will soon return.

RFK having the stamp of legitimacy means that 40 years from now, even after the CDC’s reputation has been fixed and experts are back in charge, they’ll still be battling public misinformation about settled science that people have vaguely heard from their aunt.
Remember that the whole “vaccines cause autism” thing that people like RFK are still on about is traceable to one small repeatedly-discredited study decades ago, but at this point is so widely spread that even people who get their kids vaccinated still feel some trepidation and will delay.
The most dangerous thing about RFK is the lasting impact of having the bully pulpit. I’ve heard several otherwise rational people say “they’re saying you shouldn’t get the Covid vaccine now” as though it’s a general consensus and not just one guy’s idea. People forget where information comes from.
My verdict: meh. Good moments, but pretty shaggy.
That’s usually the first thing I think of. Ethically, it would have the least unintended consequences.
The problem with “make America healthy again” is that America was never healthy. And also, health is a constantly-ongoing challenge, not something you can reach just by changing what kind of cereal you eat. Even the healthiest lifestyle doesn’t keep people healthy.
Especially evil people with infinite money and no dignity. They’ll hook him up to every machine possible and zombify him for years.

There’s also too much of everything. Every shot lasts too long, there are too many establishing shots and different angles in each scene, too much dialogue just explaining and repeating things, too many characters who don’t actually add anything.
Jaws 2 immediately starts worse than Jaws. The credits and music and cinematography aren’t even as good.
I find kids the least problematic part of a theater-going experience (aside from teenagers). Adults keep checking their cell phones or loudly whispering to their spouse about something they don’t understand.
Has anyone thought of Cinema Premium where you pay a higher ticket price but there are no ads before the movie?
