This is like 5 goals ($ for basics", "$ for luxuries", "have a family", "respected"). And missing goals people care about, like, "prove I am worthy of love", "prove mom & dad wrong", "to crush your enemies"

Basically the inverse problem of Seeing Like a State: the State must be complex enough to fit the messiness of reality. BUT it must be simple enough so the voters can understand and use their information to guide the State.
Christopher (@selectstarman.bsky.social) reply parent
I think the larger point needs to be the complexity of many solutions currently favored make the State illegible to the demos, making it a black box. This environment breeds woo and scam solutions.

Outside of California, you could improve most property tax regimes by just indexing them to the city's housing inflation and stop adjusting after improvements!

The thing that is most incomprehensible about the anti-vaxx shit is everyone gets infections, and knows how much they suck. We could get sick much less! It wouldn't be all that expensive to install air filters, UV lights, and ramp up vaccine research, but lots of people prefer being sick.

Religion is a social psycho-technology. It is super cool that Christianity ended up birthing Modernity, Science and freedom from poverty, but it kinda fucked up Christendom's conception of religion. Buddhism is the autist technical reference manual to spirituality. Xianity has the best social Myths.

"The problem is moral rot in all of our hearts, especially our social leaders": another of my opinions that sounds like a 90's Republican. But why is it a problem now? My best guess is fighting fascists in WWII really did create incredible moral momentum. Or loss of social bonds, infoslop?

I used to think the "comes out of closet at 27" guy was just suppressing the ego dystonic gay feels. But also, I think he is actually just one instance of a type of Guy: 99% thinking about what an abstract person in my place Should Be, 1% asking "what do I like"? Which is very common!

Aside from Gender, just realized that treating love as a zero-sum thing you fight for possession of is toxic af. Realize giving is enjoyable, ask for what you want (not what other people want), appreciate what people can give.
