We are going to learn so much about the Cubs this season. We’ll see if Jed has any sauce at all driving trades this offseason and we’ll see if Tom cares at all about winning if Hoyer is employed after they miss the playoffs again.

As a Cubs fan I was under the impression they were the more “gettable” pair and the rumors about a Hoerner trade for one of the two seemed about right to me. Bohm may not have quite the value of Nico but it’s no big valley by any means.

Not that Morel was good for them but it feels like the Cubs have already been burned in the Parades deal. Just adds to the common wisdom of not trading with the Rays. If they’re willing to move a guy there are red flags others aren’t seeing and it’s not just cost
The Reds are going to finish quite a few games ahead of the Cubs this season.
And where they do spend turns into wasted, redundant money for diminishing returns. Examples like the huge Swanson contract when Nico is as good and blocking Shaw atm; Belli blocking tons of top prospects, etc.

Not cut and dry but it feels like good insurance to have these reliable soft-ish toasters in your pen due to the volatility and frequency of injury in big velo guys. Feel like the Cubs especially have dealt with lots of injuries to their hard throwers the last few seasons
