I’d like to believe the first nurse was just not paying attention, but based on the second nurse’s behavior, I’m not so sure. Especially as that second nurse later told us her son is trans (she was wondering about the kid’s name)
At the urgent care, a nurse kept misgendering the kid. I escalated from a gentle “ahem, they” to “can you note in the chart they use they/them pronouns?” Another nurse overheard, said to the first one she’ll replace her, and reminded every tech that checked the kid to use the right pronouns.

i also used to be (more) like that, and it took me a lot to learn how not to. it is still an effort sometimes, but i consider it where i grew most in my career. a lot of my other eng achivements are downstream from that.
