I mean, I started with Astérix as a young reader. 2000AD as a teen. Spiderman and the Hulk were live action TV shows at the time. FF and Spiderman animations. Years later I went back to the collected silver age volumes to see what all the fuss about e.g. the X Men. Still don't care about it much.
I wasn't into US comics until the '90s: Fantagraphics, Drawn & Quarterly, that sort of stuff. Maus later on. Never been into the superhero stuff. I read a few US imports as a kid. Maybe it was just that the US editions weren't that available on the news stands and the UK editions weren't great?
