Bumpersnoot was a lot of fun. I loved being just a creature among other creatures and met lots of cool critters. @coyote.tel’s set made a big impact on me. I got a chance to meet & chat after. There’s a thirst for Therian art & music separate from furry & I am glad to see others being part of this.

Did a little art trade with @mothsprout he prints one of mine, I print one of his (one I had written a poem for) in a gold/copper metallic giclée. I had a spare 20x28” frame and here are the results.

A stylized drawing of a wolf’s head in profile, fur bristling and glowing with golden highlights. The wolf’s muzzle is raised skyward, mouth slightly open, as radiant golden beams burst from behind its head like a halo or sunburst. The dark background emphasizes the luminous, fiery effect of the lines. A close-up detail of the artwork, showing golden radiating lines across a dark glossy surface. The texture of the print and ink is visible, giving the image a sense of depth and physicality. The lower corner of the artwork, showing the glowing golden strokes of fur detail. In the corner, the artist’s signature “Moth_Sprout” is handwritten in the same glowing gold orange copper pigment. A printed poem titled Exigency: Hikesia to Astraea. The poem is written in a traditional sonnet form, invoking Astraea, the starry figure of justice, with imagery of silver scales, flame, judgment, mercy, and balance. A short note at the bottom explains Astraea’s myth from Hesiod’s Works and Days, the meaning of a Hikesia (a plea or prayer), and the poet’s reflection on sonnet form. Exigency: Hikesia to Astraea O Astraea, hearken to my cry, Thy silver scales o'er land and sea prevail. Let earth be cleansed where broken virtues lie, And shame be scattered on the rising gale. O starry-flamed, O hand of judgment pure, With lifted gaze, I bend to thee my knee. Let no delay nor mercy false endure, But mete thy law in steadfast equity. What once was sundered, bind in golden thread, What scorn hath touched, let grace restore anew. Let not thy sword within its scabbard rest, But swift descend and make the balance true. Thus be it wrought, as stars in order run, Thus be it done, ere sets the dying sun. In Hesiod's Works and Days, Astraea, the last of the immortals, ascended to become the star Virgo. Disgusted by humanity's moral decay & disregard for justice, & corruption by the Iron Age, her departure left us to struggle with our own very mortal failings. A Hikesia is a prayer to plead for her return & intervention. I have always been drawn to the Elizabethan sonnet (three quatrains and a final rhyming couplet in iambic pentameter), favoured by many poets of the age and popularised by Shakespeare, the formalism of the sonnet is not a restriction, but a framework. This poem started in one form, but ended in another. This is how the process of poetry sometimes works.

After a marble statuette of four puppies huddled together from the House of the Faun, Rome 1st BCE.

Digital pen-and-ink style drawing of three small wolf pups curled tightly together in a circular formation, all asleep on a round stone pedestal. Their bodies overlap and interlock, forming a spiral of fur and tails. The shading is soft and textured, giving the piece a warm, tender feeling. A small red artist’s stamp in the corner reads ‘Shimi.’” Photograph of a pale, worn marble sculpture depicting four curled puppies—nestled together in a compact circle. The margle stone is smoothed with age, with softened details and patches of discoloration, but the rounded forms of the animals remain clear, creating a sense of intimacy and shared rest.

Adjusting to the effects of 17 days alone is gonna take some time. Went out today & was a mess. Ate salad in the church labyrinth gardens, broke bread with seagulls, told a crow who came over for bread about my worries & concerns for the future. Crows are good listeners. Seagulls are good eaters.

Tonight I made a thing. I haven’t found a flute holder for a microphone or cymbal stand like this anywhere. Not one that holds a wooden flute with a wireless microphone on the end of it and so I made one and it works really well and it looks pretty rad too.

A close-up of a custom-built flute holder. It consists of a heavy-duty chrome drum clamp attached to a length of aluminum tubing. Two black padded guitar wall hangers are mounted on the tubing, providing a secure cradle for the instrument. Another angle of the same flute holder, highlighting its practical design. The aluminum crossbar holds two guitar wall hangers spaced apart, allowing the flute to rest horizontally. The robust drum hardware clamp provides strong and adjustable mounting to stands or racks, making it reliable for live performance use. A custom live performance setup: a large display monitor is mounted on a stand, showing a modular patching interface. A wooden Native American–style flute is mounted across the stand, directly above a red Focusrite audio interface. On the floor, a Behringer FCB1010 MIDI foot controller provides hands-free control. The setup is designed for electronic sound manipulation of flute and voice in real time.

Also hung this underneath @leafhoof.bsky.social art 🐾 More in Alt description

The picture depicts a carved and painted Runaway mask of a brown headed wolf or hyena or “ancient species of dog” the creature has several braids of hair hanging at each side and beneath it is a necklace of resin moulded canine teeth. Above the mask on the same wall is a picture painted by Leafhoof depicting a blue wolf bitch with several brown and grey male wolves all clamouring around her — this picture gave me an inspiration to write an epic poem “Metera Lykaina” which tied into Hesiod’s Theogony, which in fun became “Lykaeon”. And this is the mask I wore for the performance of Lykaeon.

In ritual, in nurture, With child held close I invoke, I guard I sing the work of love is not always gentle, but it is a holy thing I growl & howl not in anger, but as a warning: here I stand this child is mine to protect. I give all I am, I give warmth, I give tooth, so they may live & understand.

A photograph of three drawings in a rough and expressive style. Left panel: A rough ink sketch of an upright anthropomorphic wolf performing a ritual. The wolf stands on two legs, howling upward while holding a staff in one paw and a stick in the other. At its feet are ceremonial objects—a lit vessel of an offering bowls, a leather book, a stone and a pinecone The background is filled with wild, expressive linework suggesting tall grasses or trees. Center panel: A large wolf crouches protectively over a small pup, cradling it gently with both front paws. The adult wolf’s head is lowered, touching the pup affectionately, eyes closed in tenderness. The composition is dense with fur texture and soft shadowing, evoking quiet nurture and warmth. Right panel: A seated wolf throws back its head to howl, one paw slightly raised, eyes closed. Tucked securely beneath its raised arm is a very small pup, looking out with wide eyes. Sparse forest linework forms the backdrop, emphasizing the emotional core of protective howling.

The printing question is what the creek said depicting a picture of a wolf or coyote drinking from a stream in the bottom right hand side and in the top left-hand side is a ran. Next to the rent is a title to the right And below it running down the line of the stream of the words of the poem between the picture of the stream and the text and lying on top of the wolf is the Therian symbol in greyscale and slightly opaque. This picture depicts the wall of our home with me setting up all my prints to hang up on the wall. On the right hand of the wall is a selection of images in colour that I drew. Four my religious and spiritual zines. On the floor waiting to be hung up on the wall in the distance are 16 black-and-white postcard sized illustrations of crows On this wall in the living room are 12 colour illustrations. These depict a wolf family and the journey of one in particular from maidenhood to old age and beyond to the left and right of 10 of the images are too small postcard sized pictures of a mother wolf protecting her Pup

Two cool shots from Therion in May — someone in the audience took of the performance of me channelling… well something brooding, creaturely & maybe a little lonely?

A theatrical performer — Shimi — crouches on a dimly lit stage, wearing a stylized wolf mask with alert ears and hollow eyes. They are barefoot and dressed in loose, earth-toned garments, gripping a tall staff. Behind them, large, abstract green-and-orange leaves rise like wings or flames. Candles surround the stage, casting a warm, flickering glow across the wooden floor. The lighting is primarily green and orange, evoking a ritual or mythic atmosphere. The figure’s posture is intense and meditative, as if mid-invocation or storytelling. The same performer (Shimi) kneels in a different pose, centered within a semicircle of glowing candles. They wear the same wolf mask and long, flowing robe, now illuminated by a cooler green light. Their left hand rests on an open book on the floor, while their right hand holds the tall staff upright. The backdrop remains dark, with the same dramatic leaf shapes rising behind them. The scene feels reverent, theatrical, and ritualistic—invoking the presence of a sacred beast or shamanic figure.

What if we brought an evening of ambient musics, local therian & trans poetry capping off with another performance of Lykaeon, to a forested location central to the city of Seattle around the Harvest Full Moon (Sept 7th) accessible via public transit & pay what you can? Would y’all vibe with that?

A dramatic nighttime performance scene lit in deep blue and violet tones. In the center stands Shimi, a nude figure wearing a sculpted canine mask and a necklace made of teeth. They raise both arms in an expressive, ritualistic pose. Behind them, a glowing red pentagram made of string lights is suspended between trees, casting a vivid glow. The forest setting is dim, and a single candle in the lower left foreground adds a warm flicker to the otherwise cool palette. Shimi stands barefoot on a textured ground covering that catches light and shadow, heightening the theatrical atmosphere. A wide-angle view of an outdoor nighttime performance set deep in the forest. An audience sits in semi-circle formation on the forest floor, their silhouettes softly illuminated in purple, blue, and red stage lighting. In the clearing ahead, Shimi, the performer stands under a glowing red pentagram made of string lights, framed by tall trees and backed by vertical blue light bars. Additional red lights spiral around tree trunks, and candles line the stage area. The atmosphere is mystical, theatrical, and reverent, evoking a ritual gathering or sacred performance in nature.

I had a beautiful day today hanging out with creatures who became friends. We all sat down on a blanket in the sun making kandi. I bought enough of my teeth used on Lykaeon’s Necklace leftover to share & make a little ankle bracelet. With glass beads, teeth & stone. When done, Critter wanted one.

A bare foot rests on rough granite in bright sunlight. Around the ankle is a chunky, handmade bracelet composed of long, curved resin formed tooth-like beads in creamy, marbled brown and ivory tones, interspersed with small golden and translucent stones. The overall look is primal, fierce, and organic. A close-up side view of the same anklet, now worn while reclining on a burgundy blanket. The curved fang-like beads jut outward in various directions, with additional pale and golden glass and resin crystal-like stones between them. The setting suggests an outdoor or festival vibe, with soft shadows and a relaxed posture. A close-up of Shimi’s back wrist wearing a classic kandi-style bracelet. It’s made from shiny brown, beige, orange beads and white cube letter beads spelling out the word “CRITTER” in black. On the other side is SHIMI — denoting who is fronting. The vibe is playful and handmade, made among friends in a Therian DIY crafting afternoon making friendship bracelets.

This is the part of Lykaeon I say: “I cursed the trees, I cursed the soil that drank my child’s blood, I cursed the ones who held the knife & the ones who just… looked away” I did two sketches playing exploring a mother’s rage expressed vs a controlled burn of hurt — feeling out a final expression.

Image 1 of 3 Rough pen sketch of an anthropomorphic wolf mother standing on two legs, howling upward in agony. She holds a staff in one hand and a bowl in the other. Her mouth is wide, teeth bared, with sharp emotional energy. Chaotic scratch lines swirl around her, evoking violent grief or rage. Objects—perhaps ritual items—lie on the ground near her feet. Image 2 of 3 A pencil sketch of the same wolf mother character in a similar posture, but with slightly more control. She is upright, gripping her staff tightly and lifting the bowl with restraint. The scene feels more subdued, quieter in tone. The linework is gentler, and the background is left mostly empty, giving the image a sense of stillness and simmering pain. Image 3 (right): A colored version of the wolf mother sketch, finished, standing on green grass, soil and earth. Her posture is calm, even dignified, holding the staff and bowl with quiet intensity. Her fur is dark brown, with green eyes and a glowing scar or mark on her chest. The background is softly textured in green and blue, suggesting an outdoor setting, possibly a clearing or ritual space. The mood is somber but composed.

She seems to be keeping good company

Image 1 (Graffiti wall with flyers): A poster-covered wall in an urban area features vivid green graffiti that reads “TRANS RIGHTS” in large, capital letters. The letter “A” in “TRANS” is stylized as the anarchist symbol—a circled A. Below the text are additional anarchist symbols, drawn roughly in the same green. Affixed to the wall are two printed flyers: one is a typed poem — a performance script; the other is a black-and-white sketch-style flyer for “Lykaeon – A Performance by Shimi,” depicting a humanoid wolf holding a flute in one paw and a staff in the other, howling or shouting upward beneath a tree-like background. Image 2 (Pole with Lykaeon flyer): A close-up of a weathered utility pole plastered with various posters and street art. Prominently displayed in the center is the same hand-drawn “Lykaeon – A Performance by Shimi” flyer from the first image. It features a sketchy illustration of a humanoid wolf with raised arms—one holding a flute and the other a long stick—standing on two legs amidst rough foliage. A set of objects lies at its feet. In the blurred background, a rainbow-striped “Uptown” banner and green trees suggest a vibrant neighborhood.

Performing Lykaeon w/stories, poetry, monologue & music @ Terror In The Woods which became a transcendental Therian Trans Pagan & Queer night I’ll never forget. Image 1: A nighttime forest performance scene lit in vivid purples, blues, and reds. A large crowd sits on the forest floor, facing a Shimi, performing naked and masked, standing on a small stage adorned with flickering LED candles. Behind the performer, a glowing red pentagram and various neon occult symbols are suspended between trees. Tall LED light bars emit blue light, casting an eerie yet magical ambiance. Trees are lit dramatically with red and blue spotlights, creating a mystical woodland theater atmosphere. Photo: @wifewolf.bsky.social Image 2: A slose-up of the Shimi, naked and masked performing under intense blue lighting, standing on stage surrounded by battery-powered candles. The figure wears a canine mask and holds a staff, with visible body markings. They stand barefoot in the forest, illuminated by electronic stage lights, with audio equipment set up nearby. The scene evokes ritualistic and primal energy, blending performance art and forest ceremony. Photo @seerendipity.bsky.social Image 3: Another wide view of Shimi performing on stage during the night-time forest ritual. This wolf-masked figure plays a flute amid glowing candles, while a large red pentagram and other neon symbols illuminate the space. Blue vertical LED lights frame the scene, and fog or smoke adds depth and mystery. The ground is covered in forest debris, contributing to the raw and elemental mood. Small groups of people gather and move among the trunks, partially obscured by the shadows and light effects. The atmosphere feels alive and enchanted, reminiscent of a nocturnal woodland rave or otherworldly gathering. Photo @hazelzen.bsky.social

I have started selling my art recently — at Terror in the Woods and the day after at the Furry Swapmeet. I have been quite fortunate, so the next step is to set up some kind of web access but if you see anything you like — HMU I have a range of styles and sizes to suit everyone.

A table at a park market showing Shimi’s art framed alongside prints and postcards In the background are other vendors and creatures and people walking about. The Day is bright and slightly overcast and the table is set out for the art to be depicted in a long line.

“What the Creek Said”

A watercolor illustration titled “What the Creek Said” by Shimi & Critter. On the left, a small brown wren perches among green leaves. A pale blue creek winds down the center of the image, flanked by lush greenery. On the lower right, a golden-brown wolf pup with white markings bends to drink from the stream, eyes closed peacefully. The background is soft earth tones, blending into warm golds and greens. Overlaying the artwork is a poem in typewriter-style font. The poem is about a creature walking on four feet, communing with the forest, and feeling known and held by the land and sky. It evokes themes of Therian identity, creaturely grace, and spiritual belonging. The final lines express a longing not for death but for transformation—“to become, in this exalted creaturely state… to be held at last.” What the Creek Said Today I walked on four feet, although two were enough. The forest did not mind. The creek was speaking —in its clear tongue, …and I bent down, cupped it in paw-hands, drank what it offered— not to survive, but remember. I thought I heard my name, not as the world calls me— not by word nor brazen human sound— but in the gentle shape of air, before shame, before names, in that hush between a leaf …and its falling. I howled, just once and low, not for sorrow, but to join the chorus already going on without me. A wren answered. The cedar leaned closer. And I, made of fur and salt …and breath, I was fed, seen, and known. Somewhere—still far— a lamb watches the gate. But here, right here, the Shepherd’s hand is moss …and lichen and sky. I lay down beside the stone. I do not wish to die. Not now, no… not just yet —But simply to wait. Not to rise, nor to witness, but to become, in this exalted creaturely state. To be held …at last.

Ive been playing Shakuhachi since 1996 but I have never had the finances to own one, then I had a house fire that these were spared from. I suspect I will find the right one on my journey when the right one meets me, but until then I have plenty of ancient instruments to be getting along with.

“I cant go out tonight, Sorry. I’m playing with my pipes.” My pipes. I would like to add a Shakuhachi to this little harem.

A soft sunlight filters over a collection of wooden flutes laid out on a tan cloth roll. The flutes vary in size and wood tone, with five prominently featured. Three larger flutes have wood animal fetishes tied near their mouthpieces—of a Leaping Salmon, a Yellowtail Bird and a Bear — these are Native American-style flutes crafted by Steve DeRuby. Another slightly smaller flute, gifted by a friend and made by LunaFlutes, shows signs of dryness and may need more oiling. The smallest flute, small and slender, piccolo in tone and size and without a fetish, is made of sassafras root and has a small blue stone inset near the mouthpiece. It is the octave pair of the largest flute (with a bear on it). The cloth roll beneath them, handmade and worn at the edges, was sewn by me in 1995. A textured grey blanket and soft shadows form the background.

More WIP

A softly sketched illustration in progress, partially colored with watercolor-style brush strokes. On the right, a golden-brown wolf/coyote lowers its head to drink from a small blue pool in a winding creek. At the top left, a small brown wren perches on the bank, looking down toward the wolf-coyote. The background is filled with leafy plants and flowing lines suggesting water and foliage, drawn in pencil. Swatches of color—greens, blues, and browns—are dabbed diagonally across the center of the image, indicating a testing palette. The overall atmosphere is gentle, peaceful, and nature-focused.

Coloured centre pane of the triptych

A postcard sized drawing of a large brown wolf hunched protectively over a small black pup, rendered in expressive, scratchy black ink and soft washes of watercolor. The mother wolf’s fur is bristled, her posture tense but not aggressive—she looms like a shelter, jaw low over the pup’s head. The pup is nestled between her front paws, eyes closed in quiet safety. Behind them, the background is a streaky blur of pale blue and green, evoking sky and forest canopy light. The drawing is placed on top of a larger typed poem, where visible lines include phrases like “but i see you,” “the beast that paces,” and “the forest is waiting.” A red stamp in the corner reads “Shi Mi.” The whole composition feels intimate, protective, and reverent.

Critter suddenly fronted today. A 16mo young pup—she likes it there. Shift was sudden & unplanned. I was with good creatures who saw it happen, understood & got us on a bus & home safe. Slept in my den for hours. Been falling asleep on the couch on/off all day but I dreamed all day of sleeping here.

A shaded woodland clearing dappled with sunlight, where soft moss and dry grass blanket the ground. At the center stands a twisting tree with multiple trunks, its leafy canopy forming a gentle green roof. Nearby, two weathered logs rest quietly, partially sunlit, suggesting a natural bench or place of rest. The surrounding brush forms a natural enclosure, making the scene feel sheltered, hidden, and dreamlike—like a secret, sacred nook one might curl up in to nap, dream, or disappear.
