The moral high ground rhetoric, in retrospect, was part of a larger fantasy that Republicans were capable of shame. And too many folks have ridden and continue to ride that wave into authoritarianism. Moral high ground has become an excuse to not fight for anything but to occupy a current seat.
Saying that defensive gerrrymandering shouldn't happen because we will "lose the moral high ground" reminds me that even though I love Michelle Obama, the "when they go low, we go high" speech has ended up being one of the most damaging speeches in recent American political history.

I ran out of space but this interview is great and the questions and responses are all thoughtful. I’ve known a few ex-evangelicals and I always think their journey is fascinating and I’m sure, difficult.
I see Jen Hatmaker’s previous books at work often. They could be lumped with any other evangelical white woman’s books. 2016 pushed her away from the doctrines she was raised to believe, and in 2020 her pastor husband pushed her even further away when he cheated on her.
