Absolutely. I avoided being clique-y with anyone either. A good friend once put it, "I was the most loved and the most hated person" at our high school. I was loved because I tried to be nice to people. I was hated because my pseudo-arrogant personality then rubbed people the wrong way.
I decreased my friend circle from high school because people were abusing my kind nature. I said this once in something I wrote and I love it, "Smaller table means more intimate conversations."
In high school, I had an in with every group or clique. So, I tried being friends with everyone. It didn't work. Lol
