Unfortunately, the process to make the finished cone affected the soft serve, which rapidly melted. I didn't realize it was a dip, as I was too short to watch the making process. The butter shell was thicker than expected; the mochi much larger too. It would be better with form factor adjustments. 🤔
Later, we got the ice cream option: Hokkaido milk soft serve! A vanilla milk mochi is in the salted butter cone with the soft serve pipped on top and it's dipped in French butter and sprinkled with fleur de sel. WOAH. I was not expecting a THICK BUTTER SHELL. The soft serve tasted milky and fresh.
For a beverage, I wanted to try their iced soufflés, so I got their matcha one. (Next time, chocolate!) They have a tall cup of matcha soufflé foam and they pour the cold matcha latte through a hole in the top and the foam rises. It was so good: not too sweet. I ate the foam with a spoon. 🤤
For my proper brunch meal, I wanted to try the croissant shoukupan toast, which I opted to have with the raspberry jam and clotted cream. The shoukupan was cut very thick but it was very light and the crumb flakey. Very lightly toasted. The raspberry jam was VERY strong: a little went a long way. 🤤
There were a number of items of interest to me on the menu and I opted to give them a go. I really wanted to try their jam jar, which is a cake in jar form. We opted for the black sesame jam jar, a flavour we both liked. I enjoyed the coffee jelly and the strong-flavored flakey sesame feuilletine.
Earlier this week, I asked @mauvealert.bsky.social if we could have ice cream sometime this weekend at Papa d'Amour, which is a new bakery and cafe concept by Dominique Ansel, creator of the Cronut. I was surprised when they suggested we have lunch there too!
Later, I had the corn dessert. It was amazing! The cream was light and clearly sweet corn in flavour, but it wasn't heavy. The inside was crunchy and chewy sable and gave a great rough texture and buttery taste to have with the corn cream. The husk leaves were white chocolate, but not too sweet. 🤤
After our meal we went up to the second floor where they have a "gallery" of their pastries for purchase. It was set up like an art gallery: well-lit pieces and a white card detailing the ingredients of each pastry. We bought a corn, the VIC, an individual babka for Mauve, and a chocolate croissant.
For "dessert", we got a mini treat: shortbread cookies with coconut sorbet moulded in the shape of a flower with a dollop of passion fruit compote on top. For M, it was a single bite. For me, it was two. What a perfect end to a delicious Saturday brunch! It is expensive but highly recommended.
The star of the meal was served before our breads came: a slice of toasted chocolate and hazelnut babka. I've had babka in the past, but it not like this. This is what the chocolate croissants of my dreams aspire to: chocolate ribbons amid flakey and fluffy dough and touches of hazelnut. AMAZING! 🤤😍
The "bread" course: we had a choice between a plain croissant, chocolate croissant, brioche, or a Kouign Amann. I chose the Kouign Amann, M got a croissant. This was served with cultured butter and three spreads: a perfect strawberry preserve, a smooth Chantilly cream, and a corn cream. DELICIOUS!
My father and I would watch this movie every few years; we really loved it. He gave me such a love for musicals. I will be forever grateful that he made me watch and listen to the Rocky Horror Picture Show. 💙💜

M's savory course was the tomato, burrata, and prosciutto quiche. I was disappointed it wasn't vegetarian, so I can't bring @mauvealert.bsky.social here for this, but it was still really wonderful, although messy to eat. The tomatoes tasted brushed with lemon and were summer ripe and perfect. 😘👌
My savory course was the smoked salmon and avocado sandwich with spinach and creme fraiche. The bread was unexpectedly laminated and so light, with a thin coating of sugar which contrasted so well with the savory elements. It was filling without being heavy or overly seasoned. Well-balanced!
The granola was their house made granola with fresh, thinly sliced peaches and thinly sliced squares of mango with a drizzle of honey on top of yoghurt. The yoghurt tasted so good, milky and fresh. Granola was deliciously nutty. The peaches were ok, but the mangoes were *amazing* with the yoghurt. 🤤
Yesterday, I went to Lysée, a French-Korean bakery for their brunch prix fixe. I wasn't exactly sure what to expect, but reviews and videos are very positive. It was a set menu with some options. I also added the mango passion fruit juice & M had a latte. Their juice was a lemonade verbena. Tasty!
I just saw a IG account post an unboxing reel of three of these CDs. WE ALL GOT THE SAME PC. 🤦 They need to learn to mix up the CDs when they mail them out. Also, the quality of these cards is very questionable. 👀 I have cards in my collection that are worse quality but VERY few. 🤦

The vehicle! I noticed it being charged via electrical cord the first time I spotted it parked in front of their garage entrance. I like small, cute vehicles. I long to retire somewhere I can drive a cute vespa around town for errands. 🤪
At work, a business that rents part of the basement of our building owns one of these and I think it is SO ADORABLY CUTE. I want one to haul around my kpop collection. 😂😍
I like how (mostly) everyone in the story are folks doing the best they can with the circumstances their lives have given them. It makes a story with greater nuance and encourages empathy. So good! One of my favourites.
I am not a word game person, but I do enjoy being able to approach the puzzle from both directions when I am stuck and don't want to get the hint and lower my score. 🤪 I try to play every day at work.

I used to have a fish tank in my office, but after my fish passed away, I stopped using the tank. I recently got rid of it and I set up a jigsaw puzzle instead. I plan on using the puzzle as my breaks throughout the day: get up and fit a piece or two. I already slotted a few pieces together!

Clarification: we pay $4k per family PER MONTH that we support with company-provided healthcare benefit. Can you imagine how much more each of my employees would have in salary (we're almost all salaried manufacturing employees) if we didn't provide this for them because the government did?
My company pays over $4k per every family we support on healthcare. If we provided this back to employees in salary and they went to pay 10% of their salary for healthcare like they do in Japan? Or 6% in the UK? They'd have far more money in their pockets than they do now. So, in a way, it's "free".
I would much rather healthcare is paid by my tax dollars and it becomes universal and the for profit entities in the middle that don't contribute to the providing of healthcare we have in the US are removed. It would be so much more less expensive that what we have now.
