Doesn't make sense! Also curious why @repangiecraig.bsky.social voted to honor the legacy of Charlie Kirk, a man who said stoning gay people to death is "God's perfect law".

You should! According to USDA, "it does not have small pollen grains, like ragweed does, which cause sneezing and other hay fever symptoms. ... The common name is based on historic use of the crushed dried leaves and heads to make a form of snuff that caused sneezing." Also, it's really beautiful.

Thanks, I feel inspired: While trees rake carbon from the sky and lignify it 'til they die, eventually that heat's released by fire or rot or gnawing beast. But if you've got the clime to suit, and want to see less top, more root while storing carbon out the ass you cannot beat a prairie grass.

Sam (@sjberger.bsky.social) reply parent
Strong endorsement for serviceberry, although I've never grown them from seed. Our SWCD practically gives away bare root plants tho. I'll throw in a recommendation for red-berry elders as well. Super fast growing, I have some in my MN yard that are 3 years old and 9 feet tall.

Alright I have a question for *all of you*, esp for those of you who are not into environment stuff. When you think about planting native plants in the area you control, what *prevents* you from taking that action? These could be emotional, financial, practical, anything. RTs appreciated here.

Sam (@sjberger.bsky.social) reply parent
I just keep thinking about post-9/11, how lots of folks claimed that all Muslims needed to loudly answer for the terrorists. I wonder if those same folks now think all Christians need to answer for Boelter...🤔
Sam (@sjberger.bsky.social) reply parent
A marker for what? Trying to disavow people who don't fit your definition of Christianity is exactly what Catholics did with Biden (and probably Hortman), btw... Are they Christian?
Sam (@sjberger.bsky.social) reply parent
It explicitly is. Just because it's different from a lot of people's definition of Christianity doesn't mean it isn't Christian. Like any institution, religion can be used for good or evil ends.
Sam (@sjberger.bsky.social) reply parent
It seems like a lot of the pushback is tied to the word "devout". And the pushback is coming largely from people who likely describe themselves as devout Christians. I understand the double standard (non-Christians would be "fanatical"), but it is still an accurate description.

I never met Melissa Hortman, but, each in our lane, worked on a bunch of the same issues. No one gets all the credit for legislation, but I think its important for people to understand how much good Speaker Hortman did/led/was a part of. That's something being an aging union guy equips you for 1/12

Lol, I know! But also so much diversity! So much less agonizing over species selection! (I used to get paralyzed predicting what plants would do well) I need to do a species count this year, but I've probably seeded IDK? like 150 species in that plot?
