Yes, keep getting upset at the very few people actually advocating for change rather than the people actively advocating against change for their own luxury; all because of the way they present their beliefs rather than doing literally anything. That's how we get things done.

Act 4 of 5 is now outlined. A totalitarian wage-slave layer where people work to survive. All to produce resources and machinery for a higher people obsessed with progress. Unwillingly join the resistance, and balance filling your quota with them while trying to get your people to the next place.

Crazy how many people dismiss Pope Leo just because hes a religious man.
SketchyDev (@sketchydev.bsky.social) reply parent
I do realize in retrospect this could entirely be because I am in no way a musician.
SketchyDev (@sketchydev.bsky.social)
I think the real AI that people need to be worried about when it comes to creatives is music. All other AI's right now have pretty obvious tells, and cant get consistent results. Music generating AI is scarily indistinguishable when it comes to instrumentals. Please keep an ear out for that stuff.
SketchyDev (@sketchydev.bsky.social)
Act 3's story is finished! I mixed in a good feeling of both calm AND the storm together, and in the end I definitely think it holds a candle to the other two Oh, whats this? some of the scripting for some cut scenes, including the final boss? Oh and a lore overview of the act location? Oops! (Alt)

Okay never mind I figured it out and I love it.

Hell yeah, I don't know much about block/voxel based games, but I've heard they're super hard to optimize. Best of luck!

Funny how many people are suddenly able to ignore blatantly AI generated art when it's used for a topic they just so happen to agree with.
SketchyDev (@sketchydev.bsky.social)
Having a hard time writing calm, simple and slow while not making it boring. If any other writers out there are good with that, how do you do it?

For a little more, my favorite drawing from the past 3 days. The proportioning came out really nice. (I didn't feel like walking all the way back to my photo-scanner again).

Made him a little bulkier than I intended, but hey, I'm never trying to post only my success. He's also a little plain, might need to add more that really changes his outline and show he's a roboticist. Not too exciting though, he's meant to be a bit boring.
SketchyDev (@sketchydev.bsky.social)
Meet Black, the main character of my world and eventual game. Hes a tired roboticist born in a world comprised entirely of other people's garbage. He doesn't care about almost anything other than the current mission in his mind. He struggles asking for help, but overtime will grow as a person 1/2

Y'know all those people you still think fondly of years later, even though you barely talked to them, and don't think you're very important to? Like that one compliment you got over a decade ago that you still smile at. You ever wonder how many people do that about you? That you don't even realize?
SketchyDev (@sketchydev.bsky.social)
Ive always been a bit of a jack of all trades, master of none. Game development has really allowed me to harness it, and lets me fully utilize that talent. A week of practicing this until I get bored, then a week of working on this. Then you see improvement, and you feel less like a master of none.
SketchyDev (@sketchydev.bsky.social) reply parent
I forgot to mention, its been 2 days and every subsequent drawing since has been 10x better than anything I've drawn in the past, consistently. I see things differently, my hand moves differently, what is happening?
SketchyDev (@sketchydev.bsky.social) reply parent
I have never seen improvement like this before, especially not this fast. Look, I don't believe in the supernatural or spiritual, but, who the hell possessed my pencil, and what guardian angel is working overtime?

Got frustrated that I was just not seeing improvement in my anatomy. Threw my pencil at my sketch book in frustration, ready to give up trying my multi-year long endeavor. Pencil lands like image below, like its telling me to pick it back up. I pick it back up and can suddenly draw anatomy????

Made it to the third act and my gosh, its so refreshing now that my characters can be happy. An act exclusively for healing was not just necessary for them, but also me apparently. This act alone definitely shifts the story further from my original intention, but closer to my utmost desire.
SketchyDev (@sketchydev.bsky.social)
Legitimately how I've been feeling lately now that I'm writing something I'm passionate about, and not a 5 minute slapped together middle school haiku for a "creative writing" class that gets praised like its Stephen King. My Chekhov's gun is automatic.

Act 3 is already half thought out, just need to flesh it out gameplay and progression wise. Plus, its meant to be a slower break act to let the player heal and relax from some crazy stuff in the previous 2, so no pressure on me to make it a literary masterpiece.
SketchyDev (@sketchydev.bsky.social)
Act 2 has been written, I was worried that I wouldn't be able to live up to how really good the first one was, but I think I nailed the second act just was well.

One of my biggest goals in life is to be so unbelievably supportive to so many people, that I'm seen literally everywhere at every time and people need to start questioning if I'm an advanced super A.I.

People have such a hate boner for AI. While its justified in most cases, even mentioning the idea of AI near some people will make them crucify you. Its like people stop thinking when coming into contact with AI, no matter the stance you have if you are associated with it some guys will hate you.

With the side project done (just waiting on the voice acting work to come back), I can start hard focusing back on fully developing my main project (Name still mostly pending). However, once again, Ive made the project MORE ambitious, so I'm going to plan VERY far ahead before continuing.

Wasn't a fan of this guy "screaming" at first when I tried executing it, but I think I did it in a non invasive, in universe way by altering the pitch based on the difference of the player's position from his. I do like how it turned out, but feel like there's even more I can do here. Any thoughts?

I actually really want to start diverting 100% of my attention back to the main project instead of the 50/50 I've been doing the past bit but the side project is almost done. I just have sooo many new refreshing Ideas for the game! I wanna implement them now!!

Its a strange feeling going from one part of your game that has sound, to another that doesn't yet have sound. It shouldn't have sound, you didn't make sound for it yet, you'd be more unsettled if there for some reason was sound. Yet it feels unnerving when all the carefully crafted audio cuts.

I'm liking the state of the demo right now, but I'm not in love with the fact that the ghosts can speak freely with the player in the state they can. It leaves no room for there to be mystery. I also want to play around with secret messages in the game files. I just wish I got more feedback.

This is a 3d pixelated horror game where the player takes a front seat as a character in the story. Solve puzzles and beat challenges in order to put three broken friends to rest. Work alongside a fourth spirit to manipulate the corrupted game in ways an outsider cannot. Crashes are intentional.

Rest assured progress is 100% being made, I don't really get burnout, and this project is my fuel. Absolute worst case scenario; next year I have to pause in order to keep 100% of the rights to the game. That's assuming they even can claim it, I just heard about that happening once; no proof yet.
SketchyDev (@sketchydev.bsky.social) reply parent
Might resume one day, but not soon. Next year I'll be transferring to a different college where I won't be able to stay at home while taking classes. Even then, I need to check my laws to ensure the college can't claim my game, and make sure it's even safe to develop it there.
SketchyDev (@sketchydev.bsky.social)
Not going to give consistent posts on my main battle bots game anymore. I feel pressured to get work done to show people something, and when the game isn't in a complete alpha build yet, that's kinda hard. More pressure added to how hard the game is to make Isn't helping my fracturing psyche rn.
SketchyDev (@sketchydev.bsky.social)
A goal of mine when I make stories and games is to give literally everything a reason. If I mention an apple, or you see a broken chair, I want there to be reason behind why they're in that location or shape. Doors don't slam for no reason... So be careful when you hear one ;)

Sooo, not going to do those side projects anymore after finishing this one. I got way too passionate about this "simple game" and decided to flesh it out about 10x more than I should have... Whoops! I can already tell that'll continue with any other practice projects after this one, so... scrapped.

Why dont we have more "inherintly evil" things in games instead be pretty chill? Like nuclear war comes about, and instead of a billionaire being cartoonishly evil with their free entry bunkers, they actually just function and work instead of secretly enslaving all the residents.
SketchyDev (@sketchydev.bsky.social)
My favorite thing about non game designers who start dabbling into game design is realizing everything in every game is literally the exact same thing as every other game with a slightly different coat of paint.

Extra bars, stats, or meters that don't really need to exist just to add "realism" or "more game play". Not every game benefits from a stamina bar, and the amount of half baked durability systems that barely matter is honestly annoying. Managing thirst is cool sometimes, but not every game needs it.

My first practice side project is in development. It will take a bit longer but only because Its to sharpen up my sound design and writing (totally not because its 3d). It's a "horror" game pretty heavily inspired by "IMSCARED", excluding interacting with the game files. The ghosts are friends.

If It helps I looked up the user ID's for the four ID's and found the bot accounts related to them using DiscordLookup. These were their names. "Viggle.ai" "Picsi.ai" "Dinamo.ai" "glifbot" The first of them can lead directly back to companies
SketchyDev (@sketchydev.bsky.social) reply parent
Some people I know used this announcement to say some of us are misunderstanding the purpose of the bots, but this really doesn't seem like that to me. All this clears up is that even though the bots are months old they're likely just repurposed old accounts thankfully.
SketchyDev (@sketchydev.bsky.social)
The AI companies discord is using to steal your data are the following. "Viggle.ai" "Picsi.ai" "Dinamo.ai" and another bot that just goes by "glifbot" (host of a suspiciously AI friendly group) The bots that steal data from EVERY discord server can be banned as outlined in my previous post & reply
SketchyDev (@sketchydev.bsky.social) reply parent
There's also no guarentee these are the only 4 bots, and if discord will do this again, or make new invisible AND unbannable bots, dont post unwatermarked work in discord. If you're really tech savvy, maybe make a server bot in an empty server that spams poisoned art and literature every 5 seconds
SketchyDev (@sketchydev.bsky.social) reply parent
I tested this out in a completely empty server that only I was added in, these 4 user id's were "successfully banned" despite never being added by me. 1153984868804468756 1288638725869535283 1090660574196674713 1104973139257081909
SketchyDev (@sketchydev.bsky.social)
PSA for anyone that uses Discord in ANY regard. They are adding invisible "users" to EVERY server that not even the server owner can see. They are AI bots that steal the data, and even artwork posted in the servers. They can be banned with their user ID's which will be posted in the replies.

Additionally I want to write the ENTIRE story before I continue any more programming or art, The way I've been going about multi-tasking is admittedly really efficient but mentally difficult to constantly change what I'm doing every day. It'll also be a lot cleaner if I focus on the story beforehand
SketchyDev (@sketchydev.bsky.social)
Ive come to the decision I'm going to make several very small games just to test out ideas and features specifically to implement in my main large project; see how they work, how to make them better. Nothing big, barely above game jam levels of time put into them, maybe 4-5 throughout development.

When embarking on an ambitious project that you already know will take years to finish, why rush? Why sacrifice things you want to do in order to work on it? Its going to take years regardless, and that time you spend doing those things wont change that, or save THAT much time.

I was thinking back a bit on the project, and in retrospect I'm not a huge fan of how I've implemented battles right now. Its just so... messy. I also don't know how I feel about the gameplay loop, it feels so basic for what Is supposed to be one of the main draws to the game. [1/2]

It feels nice to finally start writing what the player will be doing in the game, like the general quests and game-play rhythm. "First this will happen, then the player should go here or farm here, then they'll learn this" etc etc. I don't know, it just feels more real than everything else.
