Not today, Satan‼️ Got this garbage in the mail a few days ago. Republicans trying to trick California voters into voting NO on Prop 50. Suddenly they care about “democracy”? Please. Vote YES on Prop 50. Don’t let the cheaters write the rules.
Christopher Webb (@cwebbonline.com) reposted reply parent
Prop 50 is about defending democracy. Republicans already stole seats in Texas without voters having any say. California is doing it differently: we get a one-time shot to fight back, then it reverts to our independent redistricting commission.

Nobody needs to be morally perfect. But we do need leaders who will fight for the rights of *all* people. The second someone like Newsom or Buttigieg agrees with conservatives that it’s okay to treat *any* group like second-class citizens, they’ve shown they can’t meet this moment.
David Slack (@slack2thefuture.bsky.social) reply parent
Sure, and demanding that our leaders overcome bigotry to stand up for human rights *is* working with people. You’re asking an attacked minority to accept bigotry and discrimination rather than telling the bigots doing the attacking that they’re wrong. That’s not power. It’s capitulation.

David Slack (@slack2thefuture.bsky.social) reply parent
They did, and I applaud them for it. But it’s not accurate to say “they got nothing out of it.” They stood up for human rights and killed bad legislation — that’s what they got out of it. And in a functional society, that would be enough.
