Worst part is I laughed all throughout. It's so atrociously bad, I couldn't help it, especially given how bad the whole season is. Like you just can't believe what you're watching.

Yeah, I totally agree with his take on that episode. The Jikaru plot was classic Trek, sure. But the whole documentary bit never hit the mark. And feeling the need to do the emotion-baiting bit in the beginning... This is such a big part of why the world is where it is now.
Yeah, that episode was genuinely good. The rest went from enjoyable (E02 & E04) to downright bad (E03 & E07). Also let's not forget Gamble who was just introduced to get a thingamajig onto the Enterprise. This is what TOS had red shirts for.
Honestly I just don't care anymore. The show is dropping the ball so hard this season. We know more about Erica's brother than herself, her trauma is basically swept under the rug, and Batel is just "there" so we have some form of stakes at all.
And slightly less ugly.
And the entire class itself is the next evolutionary step of the Oberth class.

Gollum was a rare exception, just a very big one due to the LotR-license. It was so big in fact, that it killed their in-house development team. But as a publisher, it has had a lot of good choices. The registry number is a misstep, but I don't think that should automatically sound the death knell.
