Given the fascist direction of travel in America generally, and specifically with corporations ditching their environmental and other progressive commitments left, right and center, I am surprised McDonalds are even bothering with this blatant greenwashing.

We've been brainwashed by our Rightwing media into believing that we have to "tolerate" fascists' intolerance. We don't.
Andrew (@sprorganism.bsky.social) reply parent
As the saying goes, when a boot is on your neck it doesn't matter whether it's the Left or the Right one. The Conservatives, Labour and Lib Dems have all, for some time, been *completely* captured by corporate and oligarchical interests, and should all therefore be consider the enemy.
Andrew (@sprorganism.bsky.social) reply parent
It's galling that Trump is bringing his entire court of oligarchs and business titans to the UK with a view to carving it up between them and Starmer is facilitating this with alacrity. Hopefully, the youth revolution unfolding in Nepal will spread to the rest of the world, ideally sans violence.
Andrew (@sprorganism.bsky.social) reply parent
Per the attached quote by Kurt Vonnegut, the "merciful" need to get their finger out and do something about this dreadful situation because the "cruel" have all but won at this point.
Andrew (@sprorganism.bsky.social) reply parent
Elites mean to take over the UK, and at the present rate they'll be successful. Farage will be Prime Minster in 2029, or much sooner, should Starmer call a snap election, and the UK will then officially be a vassal state of the fascist ecocidal American empire.
Andrew (@sprorganism.bsky.social) reply parent
Farage will in turn take power and the fascists will completely be in charge. And the US elites may not even be prepared to wait until the next general election in 2029 and bribe venal knave Starmer to call a snap election.
Andrew (@sprorganism.bsky.social) reply parent
I agree with everything you said, especially the point that these elites are coming to the UK to buy and otherwise take over our country, and Starmer, along with almost all our politicians and media class, are going along with this, with alacrity.
Andrew (@sprorganism.bsky.social) reply parent
The BBC has entirely been captured by capital and its role is to propagandise for oligarchs, investment banks and Big Oil. In England especially, I find that having a posh voice is far too often conflated with having actual intelligence, and this is particularly true re presenters at the BBC.
Andrew (@sprorganism.bsky.social) reply parent
Should Rayner resign that will conveniently get rid of Starmer's token working-class deputy PM, and not that I'm suggesting for a second that Angela was anything other than a class-traitor careerist. Starmer's cabinet sure is full of white, upper-middle-class sorts. www.bbc.com/news/article...
Andrew (@sprorganism.bsky.social) reply parent
I suspect it may well be that the next General Election is a competition between a Tory/Reform alliance against a Green/Your Party alliance. That, of course, is assuming Jeremy Corbyn's hubris does not trip him up again, and he has the sense to purse such a progressive coalition.

It is crucial that more people be made aware of James Hansen's team's findings and what they mean, especially re his new paper "Seeing the Forest for the Trees", i.e. that we have significantly underestimated the severity of anthropogenic climate change. jimehansen.substack.com/p/seeing-the...
Andrew (@sprorganism.bsky.social) reply parent
David Greaber I think was right regarding BS jobs. We need to immediately radically reshape our society for the tidal wave that is climate collapse, something that is now locked in.
Andrew (@sprorganism.bsky.social) reply parent
We need wider public acceptance of the fact that the US, UK and Germany are willing, and moreover *enthusiastic*, accomplices in this genocide. Sadly, most of the public are highly susceptible to the firehose of propaganda they're exposed to around the clock, so I'm not optimistic.
Andrew (@sprorganism.bsky.social) reply parent
Similarly, the trans community has made an excellent whipping boy. And because nigh on the entire media apparatus is owned by fascist ghouls, scapegoating vulnerable minorities thus, sadly, has actually proven a very effective gambit, and I say this as someone who identifies as transfeminine.
Andrew (@sprorganism.bsky.social) reply parent
Labour are essentially laying the groundwork for fascism, and they're doing it knowingly and deliberately. Given the UK is little more than an American vassal state at this point, and wherever the US leads the UK is sure to follow, that means we need to prepare for unchecked fascism under Farage.
Andrew (@sprorganism.bsky.social) reply parent
"We have to transform the UK into a police state, cos secret evidence." We must accept that Labour, Conservatives and Lib Dems are squarely under the control of elites and are implementing their neoliberal plans regardless, and will palm off the public every time with lies and sophistry.
Andrew (@sprorganism.bsky.social) reply parent
Elites will not relinquish their control over things without some form of resistance from the public. Those protesting today with "Palestine Action" signs are upholding a fine British tradition of refusing to accept unjust laws and IMO are unquestionably heroes.
Andrew (@sprorganism.bsky.social) reply parent
It should concern us all that elites, especially in America, are increasingly and unashamedly being open about their fascist opinions and allegiances, e.g. Musk publicly performing a Nazi salute.

Andrew (@sprorganism.bsky.social) reply parent
We are now living in a police state. Gangs of racist, violent thugs can rampage and police make only a handful of arrests, but hold up a sign opposing genocide (and soon it will be *any* sort of resistance against this insane capitalist ecocidal system) and you'll be arrested without hesitation.
Andrew (@sprorganism.bsky.social) reply parent
Starmerites are really using antisemitism to pick off the few remaining Leftwing politicians in the Labour party. Diane Abott should join Jeremy Corbyn's new party for a genuine socialist alternative.
Andrew (@sprorganism.bsky.social) reply parent
I hope you're right, Owen, and the people who facilitated this genocide face justice, though I personally fear that with the arrival of climate collapse and rising fascism that what's occurring in Gaza will fade into the noise of a world turned to savagery and darkness.
Andrew (@sprorganism.bsky.social) reply parent
We're witnessing in real time the rich raiding the coffers and making off with as much of the family silver as possible before climate collapse really bites. Reeve's masters at the investment banks know full well what's on the horizon, and "Rachel from Accounts" is happy to sacrifice the rest of us.
Andrew (@sprorganism.bsky.social) reply parent
The mainstream media is presently awash with "starry eyed" BS pieces specifically designed to persuade the masses not to trust the evidence of their own eyes that the world is burning and to instead place their faith in our leaders and corporations who like totally have this.

Many Labour donors who are pushing for harsh neoliberal policies know that this will inevitably pave the way for Farage, and they welcome that. Starmer meanwhile is happy to play his part in the installation of fascism because he will be looked after in the new Reform order.
Andrew (@sprorganism.bsky.social) reply parent
The cynic in me suspects Starmer has some gentleman's agreement with the oligarch class that he will continue the nonsensical stage managed decline, thereby giving Reform an easy victory at the next general election.

We need to urgently begin preparations for what the likes of James Hansen says is coming down the pipeline, and that includes preparing our young people for what sort of world awaits them. Collapse can be sudden, unexpected and painful, or it can be controlled and as dignified and fair as possible.
Andrew (@sprorganism.bsky.social) reply parent
I was so interested in this subject, i.e. the supply chain, I did a Masters in it 15 years ago, and it just confirmed my suspicion that it is indeed very easily disrupted, which climate change is going to do. We need to ensure we can feed ourselves within our borders, which we presently can't.
Andrew (@sprorganism.bsky.social) reply parent
I believe you said previously that worst case scenario we will hit 2C by 2034? Also, Leon, I was wondering, do you think it would be worth you or somebody writing an "explain it like I'm 5" short explainer of where we're at and where you and James Hansen think we're headed?
Andrew (@sprorganism.bsky.social) reply parent
Rich Rightwingers are especially dangerous simply because the rich generally side with the rich in other countries and in preference to citizens of their own nation. The Athenian elites betrayed Athens to Sparta ultimately, for instance, so this is not a new phenomenon
Andrew (@sprorganism.bsky.social) reply parent
I'm pleased to see somebody in the mainstream media is finally addressing the issue of collapse, be it environmental or societal. Musk is an accelerationist monster who is trying to control how the American project ends, all so he can be king of the castle, or more likely CEO of his own city state

I often see people deride others for being "stupid" etc., but in most instances it is in fact close mindedness and ignorance at play. Incidentally, being open to changing one's mind in light of new evidence is a very good thing, but some thinkers can become entrenched in their thinking and positions
Andrew (@sprorganism.bsky.social) reply parent
I think it's worth drawing a distinction between hope and naive optimism. Our leaders are utterly starry eyed when they assure us that some new magical technology will solve our problems and we should in the interim maintain the status quo

There's an argument we need to embrace more traditionally feminine values and priorities, generally. Toxic masculinity has historically been at the heart of our problems. We cannot afford its resurgence. Young people of all sexes and genders have every right to be angry at the world though
Andrew (@sprorganism.bsky.social) reply parent
Young men look around at the state of the world and none of the main political parties address their, often quite valid, concerns. They then turn to conmen peddling easy answers to complex problems. They learn to hate the scapegoats. They embrace fascist ideas
Andrew (@sprorganism.bsky.social) reply parent
Has Reeves "fallen for the con"? Is it not more likely that Reeves and Starmer are looking to their futures beyond politics and juicy sinecures in the PE industry would suit them nicely

Really, 2019 is a different world to today. And things continue to deteriorate on multiple fronts, including an ongoing erosion of democracy and an actual acceleration of climate collapse flowing from the misguided removal of sulphur from shipping fuel 4/4
Andrew (@sprorganism.bsky.social) reply parent
Emissions have continually gotten worse in the intervening time. Their goal of a citizens’ assembly to hear evidence and devise policy to tackle the climate crisis likewise is nowhere close to being materialised 3/4
