I mean maybe? But if you never train with people who know the matchup then your counterplay will be underdeveloped. Also it's worth considering that not everybody's primary goal is winning the tournament. For example I just want to play well and see my friends do well
I think it makes sense to tell people you play often how to beat it so you can work on counterplay
Best part of playing umvc3 has been the long sets. Every time I find an opponent we play 40-60 games before we call it. Literally haven't had this experience online since I played 64
Outplayed means I did a better decision in the moment. Gap means I demonstrated that I'm better than you by outplaying you. I understand why it would rub you the wrong way
Gap means you demonstrated a skill gap between you and your opponent. As in "man that 3-0 was straight gap they couldn't even win neutral once"

Definitely my favorite game of the collection! Really cool atmosphere and did you notice the music is a muffled version of the house party music?
This was a fun game for me to play right before I went to bed. There's very little influence so there's very little engagement, perfect for putting me to sleep!
I got along with combatants. It took me a long time to get it but the game is about how little control you have over the scenarios, and trying to softlock the enemy by destroying their workers early or luring them away
And getting the cherry is just complete it quickly which is very much affected by the rng world generation
Of course it takes a stroke to talk to people, that's the most important action of the game
Once you learn the layout of the city it's an appropriately challenging game, but learning the layout is hard cause you're always timed
You don't even need to start pilot quest first considering how huge mini and max is

I started to learn the control scheme and play all 3 of them but I'm just not that into the "start over when you lose all your lives" format

Planet zoldath was a lot of fun, but I don't think I'll revisit it after getting the cherry. Like the replayability is there because of the world generation but I'm just not that interested
I liked mortol a lot as well. Way better than lemmings. It has a cohesive progression system that really makes you want to maximize each level, which is extremely rare in video games.

Golfaria is just pleasant to play, even when you're losing
Porgy is the GOAT, except I hate when they hide treasures in walls and I feel like I have to shoot every wall in the game
I liked onion driver a lot for the comedy and the gameplay loop, that said once I got the trophy I never went back to it lol. It's a tough game
Man it's really hard to overstate how good MiSTer is for tournaments. There are so many games people are running on these. If I wanted to randomly put together a bracket for Suiko Enbu or Zero Divide, I could easily find enough of them. It came at just the right time for me to start offline TOing.
I feel like the beginning of a paint chase level matters because you need to make sure enemies don't stay alive for long

I really wish we had a quality event that focused on a bunch of retro titles like ST, 3S, Vsav etc. but each of those show up at multiple majors. So you should really go to whatever is closest to you out of CB/FF, CEO, EVO, or Texas Showdown (maybe not a major, but the next biggest event)
