I call this the "Cage Cale Conundrum". (Caged kale?) Lesser variations, involving more that one letter, exist throughout classical music (the dynasties of the Bachs, Mendelssohns, etc.) as well as the fact that there are at least three musical Harrisons. And let's not forget the two Chris Browns.

Years ago at work I met a man who'd never heard of John Cage. For some bizarre reason I'd never heard of John Cale. We each thought the other was misspelling things at first, then we wound up swapping some CD's. Result: we both learned about (and heard) some good music.

I lived in Fukushima forty years ago. Are some of the landmarks still there? The Ito Yokado store by the station? Kenya Coffee Shop (on the northeast side of Shinobuyama)? The view of "Baby Fuji"? The Fukushima English Center on Rt. 4? I used to work there.

I was 15 or so when I attended a concert and wrote a paper for a class where I said I liked the Elliott Carter piece but described a Brahms symphony as "Orchestral mud; oppressive note-fog; an endless succession of plodding, ponderously loud nothing..." My opinion has also changed about Brahms.

I was too much of a nerd: as a kid I appreciated Schoenberg (and Messiaen, Stockhausen, etc.) more than Mozart because I found Mozart dull... My opinions have changed and now I like both.
One of my favorite pieces of chamber music. Another is Beethoven's String Quartet 15, which if you think about it, has some similarities (that long, gorgeous, serene slow movement, for one).
