There are people in the world who will do any and everything to take or maintain power. We don’t beat that ideology by being better at it. I think we beat it by raising a generation of people who can recognize in their bodies that bigotry and fascism FEEL wrong. Now, for many, it feels like home.
I don’t think so. And I think that’s why we have a significant portion of adults who believe anybody they’d class in a similar place of agency as children (any non white, non male, able-bodied person) should, like children, be grateful that the power majority, the parent, allows them existence.
Someday we will deeply interrogate the weaponized expectation of gratitude for authority figures who believe you owe them for not killing you YET. It’s like the person holding a blade to your throat being annoyed that you’re complaining about bleeding instead of thanking them for not cutting deeper.
