I’m in Georgia and tried to schedule a Covid booster today. I didn’t qualify for a booster according to CVS and Kroger. Since I’m under 65, and do not have a “CDC condition or risk factor”. I am a primary care giver to my 85 yo mom.
You have a CDC condition or risk factor, I guarantee it. There’s like a million of them. Are you anxious? Depressed? Overweight? Physically inactive? (Compared to Michael Phelps, we all are!) Try with a different pharmacy, and if they accept self-attestation, just tell them you’re high-risk.

This has to do with state laws that — in some states — explicitly forbid pharmacists to administer vaccines that haven't been recommended by the CDC's vaccine advisory panel. Legal experts said the liability concerns are real, given the government's actions/inaction.

The simple solution is to get the vaccine from your doctor instead of CVS. Those state laws only regulate pharmacists.

If you didn’t get the 2024-2025 booster last fall, you can get it now — but if you already got it, they won’t let you get another one unless you’re immunocompromised. Which is idiotic, because the protection wears off after like 4 months. We should all be able to get boosters at least twice a year.

My husband and I tried to get boosters right after RFK Jr. was put in charge; the CVS pharmacist told us we didn’t qualify because we’d already gotten that formulation and we weren’t immunocompromised. Only one shot per year is allowed unless you’ve got, like, cancer or something.

Illinois isn't one of the 16 states where CVS is withholding the vaccine. You're correct that in states where it IS offering the vaccine now, you just have to answer yes to that question. But that doesn't help in the 16 states where the vaccine isn't available at CVS for anybody.

We got current boosters at Publix in Florida this week. We’re 65+. I was told the 25/26 booster will be available in a couple of weeks but we need sooner for travel. Their website confirms. Keep calling every pharmacy in your area.

FDA officials cited that list, yes. But the CDC didn't create it for this year's vaccine; it's a longstanding list that the FDA is simply using. A CDC vaccine recommendation is a different, formal process, and some states require a recommendation thru that process to allow pharmacists to vaccinate.

The CDC and FDA aren't producing or distributing the vaccines. They just approve/ recommend them (or not). The vaccines are coming from the same manufacturers they always did.

My Costco had Covid vaccines listed on their website yesterday and removed them completely today.
I got flu and Tdap vaccinations yesterday but couldn’t get a covid booster because they said they didn’t have them yet. I am 62 but have underlying health conditions so I expect when they get it I won’t be restricted. This was at Long’s (CVS) in Pahoa, HI.

I'm not sure if you're asking whether CVS is making exceptions for those people or whether the FDA is. Either way, though, the answer is no. CVS rules for your state are the same regardless of your reason for needing the vax, and the FDA approval doesn't include work-specific eligibility criteria.

Both Walgreens & CVS were scheduling for 9/4 or after in Cincinnati when I looked this evening. (I do wonder if they are booking a week out because visits are in fact “popular” in my area or because they are estimating that is when they will receive a shipment to have vaccine in stock.)

For example here in California, pharmacists can do any immunizations that they’ve worked out a standardized protocol for with their supervising physician (in addition to independently administering the CDC recommended vaccines).

So, this happened to me too, and I stormed into CVS ready to start shit- but they told me the new vaccine has been approved- but they don’t have it yet. We’ll see what happens, but they were quite nice and said most likely next week. And yes, I’m eligible.

I do think a lot of this is simply that they don’t have them until next week, unless you’re one of the states in the article (PA is one), then it’s multiple issues. But my Scottsdale, AZ Walgreens said they’d let you self attest when they have them Walgreens warning now is that you need a script!

Interesting as I live in Missouri and went for my flu shot at CVS today. I wasn’t allowed a COVID shot. I was told insurance isn’t covering this vaccine any longer so CVS will not be providing them moving forward.
Based on my reporting, Missouri is not one of the states where CVS is withholding the vaccine. However, it's very possible they don't have it in stock yet since the FDA only approved it yesterday. It's also unfortunately common for individual pharmacists to give incorrect info about corporate policy
I would recommend trying to book an appointment online, ideally at a different CVS, though I understand in many places that's not possible because there's only one nearby.
I have checked all in the KC area…they “may have one more shipment” but the aren’t expecting more. As a frequent international traveler, I am hellbent to find a vaccine.
