1. Hadn't heard of him before. Google had this to say about him and I agree. "Judge Frank Caprio taught us something powerful about what makes a good life⦠It's not success, wealth, or privilege. It's being a good person, cherishing your friends, and never forgetting that we're all

This gift you mention, my friend, is innate in all of us. Just needs to be fostered to grow. It starts with compassion and curiosity, with the desire to facilitate healing. We are all capable of so much more. We just have to realize it. My journey is to help the collective remember who we are.

Robin's family likes to call me Dr. Doolittle. I have always had a connection with nature. I have so many stories I could share. One time, in Chaco canyon, for the entire week, Coyotes would surround my cot and lay with me until just before sunrise. They followed on the night excursions as well.
Jim Swaagman (@swaagdaddy.bsky.social) reply parent
Oh, thank you for seeing me, my dear friend. I see you! I'm glad we are able to help each other find our way home. See you there.

My Zia is always curious about other critters. She is my shadow, follows everywhere, and always wants to know what I am doing. So, I always take the time to explain to her what i am about at the moment. I like to believe she understands me.

100 percent agree. Medicine for the soul! May you find much joy and happiness today, sprinkled with lots of love and laughter! π

Yup, I feel that one. My first experience with that was during the pandemic. Most of the time, I didn't know what day of the week it was. Didn't bother me one bit either. Now, my wife says I have gone feral. Lol

It does run into the fall, my friend. September 20th isn't that far off. They have started as early as mid-August in the past. I was just thinking yesterday that I hadn't heard the song of their people yet. Then, later in the day, I saw two Big Boi's, one a Jr( only a 4x4). Happy Day, friend!
Jim Swaagman (@swaagdaddy.bsky.social) reply parent
Oh, good. I was wondering why you weren't in AZ. I thought i had missed something. Happy Day, my friend!
Jim Swaagman (@swaagdaddy.bsky.social) reply parent
Damn, indeed! Wishing you both a speedy recovery, my friends!

They certainly are. For about the next 6 weeks, nature's symphony at its finest. 24/7 bugle. I love it.

She was such a Diva. Robin took this one years ago and it shows how spoiled rotten she was.

I lived in Tampa for 8 years when I was in my 20s. While I enjoyed it, I am not so sure that would be the case now.
Jim Swaagman (@swaagdaddy.bsky.social)
Well friends, it's that time of year again. This Big Boi is looking for a harem. The rut has begun. I saw a Boi Jr. lead Elle's crew earlier today. #mountainlife #elkmagic

Years ago, when Robin and I lived in the village, we had Mona Lisa. She always helped stack the wood. Her favorite spot in the winter was in front of the wood stove. youtube.com/shorts/1pMfE...

Oh, we use a log splitter as well. Makes it a LOT easier. The old way sure is a good work out though.
Jim Swaagman (@swaagdaddy.bsky.social)
Happy Day, friends! The hard part is done, now for the fun part, stacking. That's about 4 1/2 cords that we processed in two days, from felling the striping the trees to splitting and hauling. 9 truckloads. #mountainlife

Warmer this morning than yesterday. Yesterday, it was 44 degrees. This morning, 53. That is about the normal range for overnight summer temps for us on the mountain. Lower 40s to mid 50s overnight. Makes for great sleeping with your windows open. Zia is in the video, taking it all in.
Jim Swaagman (@swaagdaddy.bsky.social) reply parent
Indeed, my friend, there always is. I am siting here on my deck, listening to the elk symphony. Life is good.
Jim Swaagman (@swaagdaddy.bsky.social) reply parent

They came by again early in the morning while it was still dark outside, so I haven't laid eyes on Waldo just yet. With that said, I also didn't hear mama calling for him, so my guess is, he found his way home. I will post an update once I lay eyes on him. Happy Day, my friend.

My pleasure, friend! Happy Day! π
Jim Swaagman (@swaagdaddy.bsky.social) reply parent
Not too much longer, and the rut will begin. That's when I get to see, and hear the Big Boi's. Then this herd will break up and go with different Big Boi's. The Big Boi's bugle all night long for about 6 weeks or so. Its really something else.
Jim Swaagman (@swaagdaddy.bsky.social) reply parent
He usually does. They have already moved on, not sure where they will bed down for the night. That's when he will catch up at the latest.
Jim Swaagman (@swaagdaddy.bsky.social)
Neighbors stopped in for a visit. You can hear mama calling for her little. There is one little that has been having a hard time keeping up. We call him Waldo. My guess is, that is who she is calling, I didn't see him with the others. He has always found his way back, so far #mountainlife #elkmagic

I feel ya friend. For the longest time, we were able to see the Milky Way from our deck. Now, with all the city folk buying second houses up here, they tend to leave their porch lights on. Seems they are afraid of the dark. This creates light pollution and hinders my night sky views.
Jim Swaagman (@swaagdaddy.bsky.social) reply parent
Thank you, my friend. I woke up this morning and looked outside, and this is what I was greeted with. One of these days, I will learn to take better pictures with the phone. The photo really doesn't capture what I witnessed. I'm glad I was able to at least capture the above. Happy Day, my friend!

Good Morning, my friend. This morning was quite the heatwave. Woke up to a balmy 60 degrees. Our normal summer time temps are usually upper 40s, lower 50s. With that said, it is a dry cold, and that hits differently than it did when I lived in upstate NY.
Jim Swaagman (@swaagdaddy.bsky.social) reply parent
Good Morning, my friend. Funny that you ask. Yesterday morning, I woke up to a light smog in the valley. We think it might be from the AZ fires.
