I figured by 2025 this kind of stuff would be handled well by AI tools, but no, that's not the case. I can't even get operational code from ChatGPT for Playwright. It's hilarious how incompetent these tools are, but the AI is even worse. Do not rely on AI to guide you to use these tools.

I found that I have to use the 'expect' function around the object to get the toBeVisible method to work. That was the missing piece of the puzzle there. Now, I'm trying to figure out why the modal isn't seen. Sigh.
Syr2 (@syrsly.bsky.social) reply parent
Hah, nice shirt.
Syr2 (@syrsly.bsky.social)
I'm struggling to use Playwright for testing page navigation on pages with modals. The isVisible method works somewhat but it leads to some weird errors later. The toBeVisible method is advised but returns an immediate error. I really wish testing frameworks weren't so finicky.

They're often just idiots... lying but not on purpose. Problem is they don't ever fact-check themselves before saying anything. π Social media should limit political discussion to people who can research and read.
Syr2 (@syrsly.bsky.social) reply parent
You may be right, but you never know until you try. Exposure to the other side of an argument is the only way to learn how truly idiotic you are. I, for one, don't like living in a bubble. However, this specific user, @rhino0321, is definitely not interesting in learning... based on their behavior.
Syr2 (@syrsly.bsky.social) reply parent
I strongly advise you *not* to block people over mindless talk. It helps solidify the walls around them and keeps them in the dark. We want to educate them. We educate people by letting them into our circles... maybe not our inner circles, mind you. Only block them once they push your boundaries.

Syr2 (@syrsly.bsky.social) reply parent
I calculated that wrong by considering the price from 1979, but it's still a good sample to consider. $80-90 for a day ticket is still *not* cheap, especially if you consider other costs like room-n-board and travel and meals.

"Fucking duck attacked me" π¦
Syr2 (@syrsly.bsky.social) reply parent
Disney World could be way cheaper, but it was never actually cheap. Even in its initial years, the tickets were $3.50 (nearly $30 today). The price doubled in 1979, not even a decade later to $7 (~$55 today) and by 1986, the price was $28 (~$205 today). In 2019, the price was $120, about half cost.

I got a 6TB enterprise grade NAS drive brand new for ~$75. Slow but great capacity. Brand was MDD. Great deals from them. I would recommend them for a home network or media center, but I wouldn't use them for video editing over 720p because the speed is just crazy slow and affects the editor.

Syr2 (@syrsly.bsky.social) reply parent

Syr2 (@syrsly.bsky.social) reply parent
I'd go on secondhand markets for these. They rarely actually break in my experience. The amount of money saved could mean buying another one if the first one is a dud.
Syr2 (@syrsly.bsky.social) reply parent
Re-pairing fixes this issue for me. The issue tends to happen because the controller paired with the wrong device. I end up having to unplug my dongle(s) for trackers so the controller will pair with the headset. I also sometimes see this issue when the controller stays paired to another headset.

Time for a new 'subtweet': I'm tired of people getting on social media to complain about their problems and then getting mad at me for attempting to console or advise them. They treat me like an asshole for saying anything at all. Then I point that behavior out and I'm suddenly even more of an ass.

Syr2 (@syrsly.bsky.social) reply parent
Oh, this is easily explainable if we consider the Linux world. You have 'users' with 'ownership' but the users are not actual people, they are data. If digital data can own something, why can't a physical object own something? Then, we start discussing what it means to 'own' something, yadda yadda.

The biggest issue is the controllers. Getting controllers repaired is pretty much impossible, and getting a replacement after warranty expires is very costly. Meanwhile non-VR controllers are getting very standardized and very affordable to the point where warranty no longer really matters.

We may start combining CPUs and GPUs into a single product and then having "Enhancement Cores" you add onto the CPU to simply make it faster at specific tasks. Need a video encoding core? Easy. Buy one and stick it in. Need a video AI processing core? Same-o!
