And to conclude this... Blabbering ? I think that any MMO fan should pick up a MUD and play it for like a month or so, it's a fascinating experience and it's neat to see the commonalities and differences between the two genres
Also MUDs in general are pretty active, and they are mostly played (AFAIK) by visually impaired people. The textual nature of these games makes them really accessible as soon as you pair them with text-to-speech and speech-to-text systems. In fact, this goes for most textual interactive fiction.
To any curious folks, Richard Bartle did a talk about it during 2010's GDC
MUD is still playable to this day and is still a neat experience. There is so much to talk about regarding this game, from the designers meeting each other while queuing to get Lindisfarne tickets to the levelling system being a commentary on english classism, it's a very interesting story.

Almost exclusively from writing, the most interesting parts of the writing where the things hidden in terminals (or equivalent) IMO, and the main stories were mostly boring/missed opportunities. H2 fare better in this regard thanks to the arbiter levels

Never got into the card game part of yu-gi-oh but the original "games in general" arc is pretty neat. Not some kind of amazing groundbreaking work but a neat concept done decently making it overall enjoyable

Ahah, my partner and I recently sent through the sands of time trilogy and they nearly ragequit Warrior Within because of this. It was quite funny to see too because we have an age gap just big enough for this edgy style to be what seemed "cool" to me as a kid and them completely missing it.

The truly iconic french Sega ads were the ones for the megadrive. "Sega's stronger than you" is kind of our own " Genesis does want nintendon't" except that direct comparison marketing is illegal over here so they went with a different approach.
My partner that just barely missed this trend had a hard time understanding why I kept babbling about translucent plastic cases. Then I showed them this kind of pictures and they're on board the "bring back translucent plastic" bandwagon.

Edit: reading a summary to refresh my memory (it's.been years since I played the game) Glory's story is just outright queer. I was thinking of a more "metaphorical" reading of it at first but I forgot that she just falls in love with another girl at some point.
Returns was neat, Dragonfall is an absolute masterpiece and Hong Kong... I just somehow can't get into.
Glory probably has the best side story in all of these games. Tragic, queer (at least I read it as such) in an awful way, and just profoundly indicative of what shadowrun as a setting is, all the while explaining lore and mechanics concepts.
Well this goes kinda hard for a game over screen.

In parallel I watched some official dubs on TV, which included Naruto, Ergo Proxy, Nadia the secret of blue water. I also bought quite a few manga, Death Note was *the* huge one then among my friends
In 2005-2006 when I was a bit older, I was just scouring the net for fansubs, which we had quite a good selection of, I can't remember the actual streaming/download sites I went to however. Shows that I remember seeing this way includes Bleach, Elfen Lied, Naruto shippuden and Evangelion.
I'm from France, and in the 2000s we we're already the second biggest manga consumer so... Yeah anime were just already ubiquitous when I was growing up ahah. The one that made me a fan though was the 1978 version of Captain Harlock (localised as Albator) when I was like 5.
Oh and just to give an idea at how little the anime explains the story: it never mention plants as anything but actual energy plants. Like IIRC Vash and Knives are almost presented as just some guys that grew up in a colony ship, like the angel arms are just... A thing that happens.
Trigun the anime owns, but man does it explains nothing of the story ahah. Like I love it, but watching it before and after having read the manga is a totally different experience. Also I wonder if Trigun Stampede is worth it or not, the first few episodes seemed nice but I haven't watched more.
Absolute mastery over the art form of video games, stuff like Deus Ex or Disco Elysium can't even hope to compare to this
This, right there, is ludified character growth deconstructing the relationship between player and character in different forms of RPGs (linear vs branching) and how, even when given a choice, player's expectations and fantasy of a genre will lead them to the same path as if the game was linear.
