Just today my dad got hit with two-factor authentication when he tried to log into my Prime account and that’s never happened before. It didn’t matter, I just sent him the code, but I figured it might be the first volley in a sharing crackdown.
It so frustrating! At least in the 80s and 90s when people were freaking out about crime it actually was increasing. 🙄

I was obsessed when I was younger…I blame growing up in Seattle in the 80s and seeing serial killers on the news constantly…but it wasn’t literally everywhere back then and what I found was generally more academic and less sensationalized.
There’s definitely an argument for that, though I think the argument for Boomers being the worst is still strong. 🫤
I bought this book figuring it would be another in a very long list of interesting social sciences books I’d read over the years and nothing more. Instead I cried my way through long sections of it having never had anyone describe my experience of life so accurately.
Individually or as a group? Because if the latter sports is clearly the answer simply by virtue of numbers. But if we’re judging by individuals, comics fans have a real shot at the top spot. 😒

Seattle is a little obsessed with serial killers. It hearkens back to the 80s when there was one or another active in the area for most of the decade. I have vivid memories of Green River task force updates on the local news.
And this will go just as well as uneducated jackasses who feed their young kids unhealthy vegan diets. I’m related to someone who did this in the 80s and nearly lost her kids because they were so malnourished. 🤬

I was raised around 1970s nudists and it was no big deal. The only consequence was that I knew real bodies are universally funny looking and judged myself less harshly as a teen. Nudity is not inherently sexual.
Pre internet anybody you met could give you any name they wanted IRL and you had no way of knowing if they lied or tracking them down…not to mention how common nicknames were. So why does everybody suddenly feel entitled to everybody else’s legal ID now?

I’ve had good results recommending Discworld, The Belgariad, and Dragonlance to tweens who are already avid readers…though they’ll all need to re-read Prachett in a few years to truly appreciate his genius.

Oh no, it was alive and well in the 80s. It was more specifically a bar scene back then, where you’d go to places known for that if it’s was what you were looking for, but it was a lively one.

I have serious food limitations (celiac, allergies to legumes and nightshades) and I can’t afford the kinds of places it might be safe for me to eat…so I just don’t go out. It’s frustrating and isolating, but I would never dream of bringing my own food to a restaurant.
