Another friend said basically that it’s insulting to think we’d have to modify the human kind of intelligence. And I see that, too. But there will be products and services in our future marketed as ā€œnow with AIā€ or ā€œcompletely AI-freeā€ and such.

#SOTD for the last three days has been Auric Blends Vanilla Musk oil roll-on. Nostalgic little cheapie of my dreams! It is really hitting the spot, especially as the temps cool down. Plus, the smell inspired my husband to bake cookies, so that’s a win. #perfumesky #fragrancesky

Is the opposite of Artificial Intelligence called Natural Intelligence? I used this term yesterday and felt kind of strange in the meeting. But at some point we’re going to need to label things somehow, right?

This is someone who's done nothing wrong, but because this administration can't admit a mistake without it exposing thousands more mistakes, they are sending him to Uganda now. This is cruel and unusual. Can we please open our eyes?! It’s wrong. Doesn't solve any problems. Ruins someone's life.

Feeling under the weather, so focused on indoor projects today. Pickling cucumbers and collecting Mayapple seeds to plant in the shady side yard. #gardening #zone6b #pickles #nativeplants

Today’s harvest: two enormous cucumbers, a bunch of green beans, some greens (arugula, mustard, and thinned sprouts of radish, beet, and spinach), and beets. Quick pickled cucumber slices. Too much turmeric in this batch, but they’ll still be yummy. Mayapples in August. My husband foraged them and then I ripened them indoors to collect the seeds. I am not good at drawing, but everyone can recognize the universal sign for ā€œpoison,ā€ right?! The seeds, leaves, stems, and roots of this plant are poisonous. But the fruit tastes like candy. Go figure! Anyway we’ll plant these seeds this week in the shade of some mature trees in our side yard.

Thanks! No fruit trees here, and I don’t know much about them. Growing up my dad had a tart cherry tree and he’d make tons of preserves every year, it seemed fairly low maintenance. But some fruits need multiple trees to pollinate properly and I don’t have much space or knowledge for that yet.

Butternut squash is a really choosy plant. It will discard many would-be fruits, even before they have a chance to bloom. And if blooms don’t get fertilized in time by male flowers (which aren’t always in bloom at the same time) more will die. And this is the early stage. #gardening #zone6b #squash

A baby butternut that I could tell right away was going to shrivel and die before blooming because it got too yellow. It did within the next couple days. There are about 5 of these on the vine at any time. A baby butternut that bloomed but apparently wasn’t fertilized, so it shriveled, too. This is always a bummer because things seem to be going well, but the early days are dicey. I think this one is going to make it! It’s one of the hand-pollinated ones, it has grown, and its skin is shiny and plump. But time will tell. Ultimately, like anything with plants, it’s a numbers game. There are seven baby butternuts (circled) in this picture. I’m sure there won’t be seven mature squashes to harvest. But hopefully a few of them will stick.

Harvested carrots, beets, greens, and the first cucumber today. Planted the pumpkin. And pollinated three squashes šŸ¤ž. #gardening #zone6b #raisedbedgarden

Today’s harvest of carrots, beets, greens, and a cucumber. The first cucumber on the vine. One of the pumpkin plants finally planted in the bed. Some provider beans, tomato, and squash plants in the background. One of the butternut squashes I pollinated today. It can be tricky because male flowers don’t always bloom at the same time or close by the females, so sometimes you have to bring them together rather than hoping a bug will do it.

Yes, I have a bunch left in the ground that I’ll wait longer for. These were flopped over and forcing themselves out of the ground. Planted ~150 days ago. Last year I harvested Feb-planted onions in August and they were smaller than a golf ball. I’m going to try some overwinter types next.

I’m not exactly sure. I’m the eater, not the baker. But I think it’s something he found online. There are lots of options. It’s traditionally made with stone fruit, but some add berries.

Clafoutis by @jasoncauley.bsky.social. Fresh local cherries from our CSA plus flour, sugar, eggs, and almonds. It puffs up like a German pancake, then shrinks back down after a short time. Topped with powdered sugar. A perfect, rustic summer dessert with quality ingredients. #cherry #clafoutis

Harvested the rest of the spring-planted Inchelium Red garlic this morning to make room for pumpkins. Keene Garlic in Wisconsin sent it after my fall-planted Georgian Crystal rotted in the ground. I have ~20 bulbs plus many tiny cloves/mini-bulbs from ā€œgreen garlic.ā€ #gardening #zone6b #garlic

Lovely subterranean bouquet of onions, garlic, beets, and carrots. Freshly picked carrots after washing The first of my full-bulb spring-planted garlic. They are small but healthy, and I’m grateful for them considering my fall-planted batch all rotted in the ground. Add some chicken and chickpeas to the greens and roots from the garden and you have a satisfying dinner salad.

It may’ve been a mistake to plant two of these Butterbaby butternut squashes. They’re growing so fast, I now need my step-ladder to tend them. I added a bunch of twine to the trellis for them to climb, and trimmed some of the smaller vines off, but I think it’s gonna be a lot! #gardening #zone6b
