I grew up in an older midwestern neighborhood and often walked with a group to school. My siblings moved further afield in the same city and as parents have had to deal with this car pickup situation. That childhood neighborhood seems great to me (now in NY) but people there don’t want it.

They want to hedge becasue removing the hedge word suggests they stand for something. There's lots of signs NYT is broken but for me when an editor inserted in a line that hedged drinking bleach in 2020 as a covid treatment cause Trump said so that showed how broken they are.
